Many preferential policies for fishermen to build fishing boats
(Baonghean.vn) - On June 20, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to evaluate the results of offshore fishing.
Attending the conference were representatives of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, leaders of coastal localities, shipbuilding facility owners and representatives of fishermen with offshore fishing vessels.
The offshore fishing movement began to develop in Nghe An in 1997 and has grown steadily. Up to now, there have been more than 4,000 fishing vessels in the area, including 1,201 vessels with engines of 90 horsepower or more (one with a 1,000 horsepower engine). In recent years, Nghe An's offshore fishing fleet has contributed to increasing production, reaching out to sea to reduce pressure on the open sea, contributing to protecting the sovereignty of the country's sea and islands.
Since 2010, implementing the policy of supporting new ships of the Provincial People's Committee, fishermen in the area have invested in building more than 300 new ships with large capacity and effective exploitation. The conference also heard the draft decree of the government on a number of policies for fisheries development. Accordingly, in the near future, people will be able to borrow from commercial banks up to 95% of the total investment value for new construction of iron-hulled ships, 85% for wooden-hulled ships, with an interest rate of 5%/year, in which for iron-hulled ships, ship owners only have to pay an interest rate of 1%/year, for wooden-hulled ships it is 2%/year. The rest is subsidized by the state budget. The Decree also issued a number of other policies to encourage fishermen to develop production such as insurance policies, tax incentives, etc.
On this occasion, Vietnam Shipbuilding Corporation also introduced steel-hulled fishing boat models manufactured by the company that have been chosen by local fishermen, including Nghe An fishermen.
