(Baonghean.vn) - In order to meet the increasing demand for studying and researching French documents of readers in Nghe An province, on October 17, the National Library of Vietnam and the International Organization of Francophonie (OIF) coordinated with Nghe An Provincial Library to open the "French Book Space".

Attending the opening ceremony were Ms. Kieu Thuy Nga - Director of the National Library of Vietnam; members of the Party Executive Committee of Nghe An province: Vo Van Dung - Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; Tran Thi My Hanh - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports; representatives of the International Francophone Organization, libraries, cultural centers, relevant units, departments and branches, press agencies and students in the province. The "French Book Space" at Nghe An Provincial Library was built with the support of the International Organization of the Francophone (OIF) with an initial collection of 595 books in French, of which about 50% are in the fields of social sciences, economics, education, languages, exact sciences, applied sciences, medicine, agriculture, arts, sports, literature, and reference books; the remaining 50% are books for children.

Among them are valuable books such as: "La Théo des fleuves" by author Jean-Marc Turine, which won the 5 continents award of the International Organization of the Francophone (the Vietnamese version is called "The Gypsy Woman" and has been published in Vietnam), or comic books loved by many generations of children: "Les Schtroumpfs", "Spirou et Fantasio", "Une aventure d'Astérix"...

In addition to Nghe An province, the National Library of Vietnam also coordinated with the International Organization of La Francophonie to establish French book spaces in 7 other provinces/cities across the country including: Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Can Tho, Ben Tre and Binh Duong, with nearly 6,000 books in French.

The "French book space" at the National Library of Vietnam as well as 8 provincial/municipal libraries is a useful bridge providing information and knowledge to Vietnamese people of all ages with relatively complete understanding of all aspects of culture, society, science and technology of other member countries in the Francophone community; through the common language of French, it helps to strengthen solidarity and friendship within the International Organization of La Francophonie.
