Many people fell into the trap of the scam group "tracking messages, locating Zalo, Facebook..."
Posting advertisements providing services to monitor and read messages on social networks to defraud and appropriate property of many people with a total amount of about 100 million VND, two subjects Nguyen Quang Huy and Nguyen Van Dung (both born in 2004, both residing in Son Ham commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province) have just been prosecuted by the Investigation Police Agency of Hai Duong City Police, Hai Duong province for the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property under Clause 1, Article 174 of the Penal Code.
On August 19, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Hai Duong Provincial Police received a report from Mr. D.CH (born in 1994, residing in Cam Thuong Ward, Hai Duong City) about: On August 13, Mr. H accessed the social network Facebook and saw the group "Software to track messages, locate Zalo, Facebook, Viber" posting an advertisement providing services to track and read other people's Zalo, Facebook, Viber social network accounts; customers in need should contact the account "Thuong media" for instructions.
Due to the need to use the service, Mr. H contacted the account "Thuong media" and was instructed by this account to send the account to be monitored, notified of the price of each service package (monitoring software) and provided the MSB bank account number for Mr. H to transfer money.
Trusting, on August 13 and 14, 2024, Mr. H transferred money to the above account twice with a total amount of 2.5 million VND. After receiving the money, the subject blocked all communication with Mr. H. Suspecting that he had been scammed and had his property appropriated, Mr. H filed a complaint with the police.
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department conducted an initial verification and determined that: From February 2023 to August 19, 2024, two subjects Nguyen Quang Huy and Nguyen Van Dung discussed and agreed to use many accounts and groups to post false information on Facebook to advertise services for monitoring, surveillance, reading messages on other people's social network accounts, contacting via Zalo, using bank accounts (not the owner's) to receive money, with the purpose of making others trust, transferring deposits and then appropriating them.
Huy and Dung confessed to having defrauded and appropriated from many people in many localities a total of about 100 million VND, of which, on August 13 and 14, 2024, they defrauded and appropriated from Mr. H an amount of 2.5 million VND. Huy and Dung are cousins, knowledgeable about information technology but do not have stable jobs.
Pursuant to the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention has transferred information on crimes along with related documents to the Investigation Police Agency of Hai Duong City Police for handling according to its authority.
During the investigation, on August 30, the Hai Duong City Police Department issued a decision to prosecute the above two suspects for the crime of Fraudulent appropriation of property.
Currently, the Hai Duong City Police Investigation Agency continues to investigate to handle the subjects according to the provisions of law.
