Missing a colleague who has passed away...

Being a journalist and being able to travel a lot and write well is happiness.

Exactly on this occasion a year ago, Journalist Nguyen Huy Minh was still exchanging professional work with his colleagues in the office of the Provincial Journalists Association. Although busy with his work as a News reporter for Nghe An Radio and Television Station, Huy Minh still contributed news and articles to the Nghe An Journalist Magazine. A few months later, friends at Nghe An Radio and Television Station informed him that Huy Minh was suffering from a terminal lung disease. We visited him, he held his hand and sobbed. After many months of struggling with the disease, with severe pain, he breathed his last on April 28, 2013, the 19th day of the third lunar month of Quy Ty, at the age of 63.

Nguyen Huy Minh, pen name Huy Minh, was born in 1951, the year of the Cat, in Nghi Van commune (Nghi Loc). After graduating from Vinh University, he joined the army to fight in the Southern battlefields, then was demobilized to teach in Can Loc district, Ha Tinh province. With his forte in writing and journalism, in 1984, Huy Minh decided to join Nghe Tinh Radio Station. Also working as a journalist at Nghe An Radio and Television Station, I was close to him and understood his personality quite well. With a meticulous, serious and responsible working method, in nearly 30 years of journalism, Huy Minh has always been attached to the Construction and Industry sectors, so many people still joke that he is "Minh Cong Nghiep". Most leaders of the Industry and Construction sectors in the province love and respect him. They consider him a man of work, a journalist who always promotes his heart in his profession.

Every morning, he carries his briefcase to the office to learn the work, then goes, writes, and submits news and articles to the editorial secretary. Regardless of the weather, sunny or rainy, the Nghe An Radio and Television Station is rarely without Huy Minh. He often confided to me, "At my age, it is very difficult to follow the young, but we should not let ourselves lack news and articles. While working, we should not let our colleagues criticize us for being irresponsible with our work." During his journalism career, he actively collaborated with many newspapers in the province such as Nghe An Newspaper, Nghe An Labor, Nghe An Police, etc. Huy Minh's name is always familiar and recognized by the audience.

Around the beginning of 1996, the Provincial Labor Federation was preparing to establish the Nghe An Labor Newspaper. The Chairman of the Provincial Labor Federation at that time went to work with the leaders of Nghe An Radio and Television Station and directly asked Huy Minh to become the Editor-in-Chief of this newspaper. They knew that he was a long-time industrial reporter, experienced in the profession and very knowledgeable about workers. The agency's leaders tried to persuade and lobby him for a long time, but he still refused to go. He was more than capable of taking on positions in the agency such as editorial secretary, head and deputy editor of the radio editorial department. The station's leaders sometimes considered it, but Huy Minh said that he just wanted to fulfill his responsibilities as a party member and a journalist. Being able to travel a lot and write well as a journalist was a happiness. That's how Huy Minh was. He always contained the serious demeanor of a teacher, the artistic qualities of a journalist and the exemplary role of a veteran.

Remembering him, an active, exemplary member, actively participating in Association activities and contributing to the warm family of the hometown press. His colleagues would like to say a few simple words, asking to light a stick of incense on the altar, praying for his soul to be liberated in the afterlife.

Duy Lieu - Journalist, talented photographer

He has passed away, but he has left behind photos of our people's production and fighting during the years of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, full of enthusiasm, in the Museum and on the pages of the provincial newspapers, including the Central ones. He was present at Nghe An Newspaper from the first day of its establishment with Mr. Nguyen Huong, Phan Sung, Nguyen Tuong... He took beautiful photos of Uncle Ho visiting his homeland, and rallies demonstrating the strength of Nghe An people in response to President Ho Chi Minh's call... "Without guns and bullets, use hoes, shovels, spears, and halberds to fight the enemy, refuse to lose the country, refuse to be slaves!".

From a young man from the countryside in Cau Giat Town working at the Information Department of Quynh Luu District, being assigned to work at the Nghe An Information Department writing news, articles and then holding a camera to take photos, Duy Lieu persevered in studying and learning from his friends, photographers Van Dong, Tran Khanh, Dang Binh... Journalist Duy Lieu and photographer Van Dong were close friends, so when Van Dong had a photo published in the Central newspaper or Duy Lieu also had a photo published in the Central newspaper, they called each other out to a restaurant to celebrate, so their friends joked.

There are not many canteens in the photo.

The photo has more or less the same canteen.

... even though the two artists never let the newspaper lack photos.

After nearly 40 years of holding a camera, when he retired, he passed on his profession to a number of reporters who not only wrote good news and articles but also took good photos. That was journalist and photographer Nguyen Duy Lieu. He has gone to his ancestors, but his collaborators Ha Van Tai, Sy Thuan, and Phan Xuyen still mention his photos published in newspapers and kept in museums.
