The "steel" roses

(Baonghean) -The female doctors we met, no matter what position they hold, are always dedicated to their profession and to their patients. Wearing a white blouse, along with responsibility and pressure, for them, in addition to sacrifice and dedication, a "steel" spirit is an important factor to stay in the profession...

27 years since the day female doctor Ngan Thi Xuyen (from Thanh Hoa) came to Nghe An to work, she has been attached to the treatment of mental patients. Having worked in different departments and rooms and now as the Deputy Director of Nghe An Mental Hospital, she often comes into contact with "abnormal" patients, but Ms. Xuyen has never felt "bored" with her job (Although there were times when she was attacked by patients who lost consciousness and control). Because deep in the heart of this doctor: Those who are sick are pitiful, those who do not know they are sick are even more pitiful; and they need to be cared for with the hearts of "mothers".

With that in mind, Dr. Ngan Thi Xuyen took care of her patients as if they were her own relatives. Dr. Xuyen confided: “To treat mental patients, in addition to professional issues, psychological factors account for over 50%. However, approaching, being close to, and encouraging patients is not easy. If not handled skillfully, it will make their condition more stressful. Therefore, doctors need to have a method to make patients open up, trust, and cooperate. That method is nothing more than genuinely caring for patients. These are non-prescription medicines”...

Doctors and nurses at the Mental Hospital have witnessed Dr. Xuyen “transform” into a patient many times, talking, laughing, and confiding with the patient. Concerned about the health of mental patients, Dr. Xuyen strives to improve her professional skills, researching topics related to treating patients more effectively and quickly. During her work, Dr. Xuyen has been awarded many times for her outstanding achievements, but according to her, “the greatest achievement of herself and her colleagues is to return normal life to the patient”.

“The pride and honor of a doctor has contributed to changing the fate of patients in a more positive direction” - Master, Doctor Le Thi Thanh Tra, Provincial General Hospital of Friendship, always takes that as her ideal and goal. Ms. Tra confided: “When I was a child, I found doctors “impressive” and very important. It was from that thought that I was determined to go to medical school. After entering the profession, I realized that along with that honor comes an extremely heavy responsibility, full of anxiety and worry because it is related to human life”. And to escape those obsessions, doctors must love their profession, love their patients, and then constantly improve their professional skills... In the first months of returning to the hospital after studying Ophthalmology at the Central Eye Institute, Doctor Tra became a “Vip” customer of many meat shops in the city’s markets. Ms. Tra only bought pig eyes and cow eyes and after visiting, examining and treating hours, she worked hard alone, meticulously practicing eye surgery.

With great will and determination, Dr. Tra quickly became a skilled and skillful doctor. On average, each year she performs surgery on over 1,000 cases of cataracts, glaucoma, and eye injuries. Dr. Tra still remembers the uncomfortable squinting and bright smiles of patients when the bandages were removed and they knew they had escaped blindness. And she also cannot forget the times when she felt helpless despite her best efforts to save the patient's eyes. All the joy and anxiety turned into motivation for her to move forward and firmly step on the path of practicing to save people.

“A good doctor is not a good physician. A good physician must be a good physician and have good professional ethics.” Taking this teaching to heart, for the past 20 years, Dr. Nguyen Thi Ha has not hesitated to work at the Tuberculosis and Lung Hospital. It can be said that to do a good job in testing, technicians must have nerves of steel, be extremely careful and meticulous, because any negligence can cause themselves and their colleagues to become infected. More than anyone else, Dr. Ha is well aware of this and "For effective treatment, the testing step is extremely important, only when the disease is diagnosed can there be appropriate therapy and regimen"... Let me borrow the comment of Dr. Thai Dinh Lam - Deputy Director of the hospital to talk about her: "Although she started out as a graduate of Hanoi Medical University, when the organization assigned her work, Dr. Ha did not hesitate to leave the direct treatment of patients to do testing work. In this job, the doctor is quiet, silently like sowing seeds - no one knows about him...".

Becoming a female doctor is difficult, becoming a female doctor with good expertise who is trusted and respected by the people and colleagues is even more difficult - Doctor Nguyen Thi Thao, Deputy Head of Internal Medicine Department A, Traditional Medicine Hospital, confided. According to Doctor Thao: With a long study time, female doctors have lost a part of their youth; stressful work, often on duty at the hospital makes them not have much time to take care of their families. And being a woman, the study time and development opportunities are less than male doctors... But Doctor Thao has overcome all these difficulties, to have a big heart, full of love for the sick, lighting the fire of medical ethics. All patients coming for treatment, she always welcomes them friendly, examines, guides, consults thoughtfully, and treats and cares wholeheartedly. The title "Excellent Doctor" that the State awarded her this time is a worthy recognition.

If female doctors in the plains have to work one hard, female doctors in the highlands have to work ten times harder. People like Dr. Dau Thi Hoa - Head of the Thach Giam Commune Health Station, Tuong Duong District or Dr. Nguyen Thi Dinh - Deputy Director of the Quy Chau District Health Center, in addition to fighting diseases, they also have to fight bad customs and misconceptions about health. Their footsteps have gone through highland villages and deep forests to treat diseases and promote health protection for the people. For Dr. Dinh, any action or contribution that can prevent diseases is something to be proud of and she herself will go more and more so that the lives and health of the people here will be better cared for.

Not afraid of hardships, female doctors have voluntarily thrown themselves into the fight against diseases to save people. Always keeping the fire burning in their families, fueling the faith of patients, always proud and loving their profession, they are the "Dang Thuy Tram" of the 21st century.
