Ways to prevent gas tank explosions

The house collapse caused by a gas tank explosion in Hanoi on the morning of November 3rd is once again a warning bell for people about the dangers they face when they do not know how to handle a gas tank that is "misbehaving".

At around 5:45 a.m. on November 3, a very serious gas tank explosion occurred at a house in lane 22 Ta Quang Buu, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi. The entire family of the victims, Mr. Tran Nhat Minh (born in 1968) and his wife Nguyen Thu Ngan (born in 1974), both civil servants, and their two children were injured.

The initial cause of the incident was determined to be that when she smelled gas, Ms. Ngan went to the kitchen to try to turn off the gas tank, which caused an explosion. According to the predictions of many people living in this area, it is very possible that when she went to the kitchen to turn off the gas tank, Ms. Ngan turned on a light or some electrical device, causing the gas to explode. Because in the case of a gas leak, turning on a light or any other device can create sparks and cause an explosion.

This is an expensive lesson for Ms. Ngan's family as well as many other families using gas stoves because their lack of knowledge has caused them to get into trouble.

Lack of knowledge when using gas stoves can cause terrible accidents.

Through this tragic incident, we would like to send to our readers some solutions when gas cylinders or gas stoves have problems.

Gas smells: Due to a leaking gas line, a broken valve lock, or a misaligned gas pipe. At this time, you need to immediately close the gas cylinder valve and open the door to reduce the gas concentration. If you smell a strong gas smell, the cylinder leaks, creating snow around it, and the room temperature increases, you must quickly open the door and use a hand fan to reduce the gas concentration. Pay special attention not to turn on or off electrical appliances. It is best to disconnect the power source remotely, then immediately call a repairman to check.

Pay special attention not to light a fire; do not turn on the electric fan, avoid sparks from the fan causing a fire. Cover the gas leak with soap, spray water into the tank, if the tank swells, immediately run outside, to prevent the gas tank from exploding. However, according to calculations, gas tanks rarely explode because they are designed with special materials. Usually, the gas leaking out explodes, with very strong explosive force.

Fire source problem: When the gas stove does not ignite, the flame burns abnormally, and there is a gas smell escaping. You need to turn off the stove immediately, close the tank valve, and check if the fire divider is misaligned, dry the stove's electric ceramic, or check if there is anything affecting the fire tray? Clean water can also cause abnormal red fire, so a wet pot bottom will also cause the fire to turn red.

Gas stove does not ignite: You just need to repeat the ignition action continuously until the air in the gas pipe is expelled. If the gas pipe is broken, you should replace it to ensure safety. Check the igniter. If it is dirty, you need to remove the stove grate and use a dry cloth to clean the igniter.

Red flame: Fix it by regularly cleaning the gas stove. However, there are also cases where the red flame is due to your house being newly painted or whitewashed. This phenomenon does not require treatment, it will naturally disappear after a few days.

The fire makes a noise: This phenomenon is often caused by the gas stove installer not adjusting the air part correctly, the shower (fire throat) is not installed correctly, the fire outlet is clogged. When encountering this problem, you can handle it yourself by reinstalling the air adjustment part correctly, checking the position of the fire throat, and cleaning the fire outlet.

In addition, you should not use old mini gas cylinders because the safety is not as good as new cylinders. With new gas cylinders, you also need to check the expiration date, whether the manufacturer is reputable, and whether it has been inspected for quality and safety...

Gas cylinder lines should be replaced periodically according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Do not place insecticides near open flames, and do not spray under the stove or near an open fire.
