(Baonghean.vn) - Although from two different rural areas, Mr. Pham Thanh Que and Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy were both soldiers. Returning to civilian life, these two veterans continue to fight poverty and contribute to the development of their homeland.
Kind and generous heart
Having served in the military for 16 years, holding various positions, Mr. Pham Thanh Que (born in 1954), residing in Hamlet 1, Khanh Son Commune (Nam Dan District), always strived to excel, earning the trust of his comrades and the recognition of his superiors. In 1988, after an illness requiring stomach surgery and a long period of treatment, he had to leave the military with a disability pension of 71%.

Returning home at the age of 34, despite having recently recovered from an illness...veteranPham Thanh Que remained actively involved in the agricultural production cooperative's activities. The organizational, operational, and management experience he accumulated during his military service was now put to good use in assisting the Management Board in leading the cooperative members in production. After the cooperative dissolved, Mr. Que was transferred to the position of Vice Chairman, then Chairman of the Veterans Association of the commune, a position he held continuously for 20 years.
Once again, veteran Pham Thanh Que has continuously strived to learn and excel in his duties. What is most noteworthy is that Mr. Que taught himself to use a computer proficiently for work, something few people his age can do. He personally drafts and prints all documents and reports on the computer, without needing assistance from others.

At the same time, Mr. Que had many initiatives in his work, bringing high efficiency to the movements, so the Veterans Association of Khanh Son commune was always ranked as an outstanding advanced association. Mrs. Mai, a neighbor, is a single woman with no husband or children, showing signs of mental illness, and living a life of hardship and deprivation. In addition, he also helps two underprivileged students at Khanh Son 100 Secondary School by giving them 100,000 VND each month to buy books, notebooks, and school supplies.
Even when the government provided assistance for house repairs for families under preferential policies, Mr. Que proactively gave the money to other families who were more in need. Mr. Que's compassion for the poor, lonely, and underprivileged students who overcome difficulties has always been admired by the villagers, becoming an example for everyone to follow.

Mr. Pham Thanh Que's family is also known as a prime example of hard work, economic development, and wealth creation in their homeland. After leaving the military and returning to his hometown, he decided to focus on farming, cultivating the land, and cultivating the forests to make a living and produce.
He was one of the first households to receive land.economic developmentThe farm raises dozens of cows, goats, pigs, and hundreds of chickens, and grows hundreds of lemon trees, generating hundreds of millions of dong in income each year. Veteran Pham Thanh Que also proactively shares his farming and livestock breeding techniques and experience with his neighbors in the village and commune to help them improve their lives and build their homeland.

Exemplary in every respect
Born and raised in Trung Den hamlet, Khanh Hop commune (Nghi Loc district), and having enlisted in the army and fought in the Cambodian battlefield, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy (born in 1959) is known as a dynamic and proactive veteran. At the same time, he is an exemplary citizen, always ready to contribute to the development of his homeland.
After several years fighting in Cambodia, in 1988 Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy was discharged from the army and returned to his hometown as a war invalid with a 35% disability rating and a 71% war sickness rating. At that time, life for people in the coastal area was still very difficult, and this veteran had to find many ways to make ends meet.

With the mindset that a soldier cannot surrender to "the enemy of poverty," he leased 7,500 square meters of land for aquaculture, determined to get rich on his homeland. Aquaculture, mainly shrimp farming, became increasingly effective, yielding high production and income, creating opportunities for his family to expand their farming and production scale.
When conducting business activitiestourismIn the rapidly developing coastal town of Cua Lo, former soldier Nguyen Quoc Huy opened a seafood restaurant to serve tourists. Thanks to ensuring food safety and hygiene, maintaining a clean environment, and offering reasonable prices, his family's business has established a reputation and brand, attracting an increasing number of customers.

Normally, Mr. Huy's restaurant provides employment for 10-18 workers with salaries ranging from 5-20 million VND per month, including meals, accommodation, and bonuses during holidays. Annual revenue is 6-8 billion VND, and the family pays all taxes and fees to the State and local authorities on time, earning praise from the tax authorities. Mr. Huy's family business model has been emulated by many in the locality and has proven to be highly effective economically.
With their comfortable financial situation, former soldier Nguyen Quoc Huy and his wife have been able to take better care of their elderly parents (father 100 years old, mother 93 years old) with thoughtfulness and dedication, earning them the reputation of being filial children. In addition, they have donated significant funds to support local infrastructure development, rural development, street lighting, planting flowers and ornamental plants, and purchasing broadcasting equipment.

Every time the Women's Association,Elderly peopleWhen farmers and the Youth Union organized a movement, Mr. Huy readily donated millions of dong to fund its activities. He also created a Facebook account for Trung Den hamlet and acted as a leading "reporter" on the front lines of propaganda, encouraging people to do business, produce, and maintain security and order. Like Mr. Que, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Huy was recently awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for his outstanding achievements in the work of showing gratitude and repaying kindness.
Veteran Nguyen Quoc Huy shared: “I have always admired Lieutenant General, Hero of the People's Armed Forces Nguyen Quoc Thuoc, a fellow villager and relative. I always remember and follow his advice: as long as I have health and intellect, I will continue to work and contribute to my homeland. I still keep a photo of myself with him taken at the Provincial Veterans Association Congress decades ago.”
