Typical studious families
"Always be a spiritual support for the children"
Following the President of the Ben Thuy Ward Education Promotion Association (Vinh City), we went to the house of Ms. Dinh Thi Tung (Block 3) - one of the typical families in the ward's education promotion movement.
Ms. Dinh Thi Tung shows off her three daughters' academic achievements.
Her eldest daughter - Dinh Thi Thanh Chi (born in 1991) is currently a fourth-year student at Hanoi University of Agriculture; her twin daughters Dinh Thi Thanh Nha and Dinh Thi Quynh Trang are students at Foreign Trade University and National Economics University, respectively. To achieve that result, Tung and her husband have to overcome themselves. Because Dinh Van Tin - the main pillar of the family is a war invalid with a 41% disability and is often sick. Tung does not have a stable income, her main job is selling small items at Vinh University market. It is impossible to tell all the hardships and difficulties, especially when Tin is sick for months, the 3 children are still too young, the 2 twins are in poor health. But the couple is always determined, at any cost, to try to raise their children to study like their friends. Although she does not have much time to teach and tutor her children, Ms. Tung always encourages them with small rewards such as hairpins and new sandals when they achieve high academic results. Thanks to their mother's care, the three sisters encouraged each other to study and for 12 consecutive years were excellent students, excellent students of the city, excellent students of the province and entered the university easily.
The day we visited Ms. Tung’s family, we learned that she had just gone to Hanoi to visit her children and seek medical treatment. In the midst of her joy were tears, she wished to have good health to raise her children to finish university, and to be a spiritual support for them during difficult times in life.
Thai family with 4 children going to university
When you come to Lang Khe commune (Con Cuong), almost everyone knows about the family of Mr. Vi Van Loi and Mrs. Lo Thi Tuyen, because the fact that two farmers, Thai ethnic people in a mountainous commune with many difficulties like Lang Khe, have 4 children studying at university is considered a miracle. Mr. Vi Van Loi was honored to be elected to the delegation to Hanoi to attend the Congress of the National Association for Promotion of Education.
His eldest daughter, Vi Thi Nga, has been an excellent student since childhood, for many years in a row she has been awarded the title of Excellent Student of the province and received the Vu A Dinh scholarship. After finishing high school, Vi Thi Nga passed the entrance exam to Vinh University and became an excellent student, was admitted to the Party in the school and graduated from university with a degree of Excellent. Currently, Vi Thi Nga is a teacher at Tam Quang Secondary School - Tuong Duong District. For the past 3 consecutive years, Vi Thi Nga has been awarded the title of Excellent Teacher at the provincial level and is an Emulation Fighter of the Education sector. Thanks to the teachings of her parents and the exemplary role of her eldest sister in the family, all 5 remaining children of Mr. Vi Van Loi are obedient and diligent in their studies. Their third child, Vi Van Toan (born in 1985), after many years of perseverance, passed the entrance exam to Vinh University and is currently a fourth-year student. The fourth child, Vi Thi Nguyen (born in 1987), passed the entrance exam to Hue University of Economics and graduated with a good degree. She is currently the Vice President of the Lang Khe Commune Farmers' Association. The youngest daughter, Vi Nhu Nam, is still studying at the provincial Ethnic Minority High School. She is a well-behaved and diligent student. From preschool, primary school to secondary school, she has been awarded certificates of merit by the school and has achieved the title of Uncle Ho's Good Child. In 2009, Nhu Nam was able to attend the Provincial Congress to honor poor students who have overcome difficulties.
Mr. Vi Van Loi said: To raise 4 children to go to university, he and his wife had to work very hard, but still had to try to "sacrifice the father's life, strengthen the children's life". The family's current income, in addition to his monthly allowance of 2.5 million VND, comes from raising livestock and growing crops. In addition, the children's hard work has also supported them a lot. Mr. Loi assigned the task to his children, each of whom graduated from school and had a salary, had to be responsible for supporting their parents in raising their younger siblings who were still studying. Thanks to that, after 17 long years of raising their children to study, the couple finally fulfilled their duty.
The fragrance lasts forever...
In a purely agricultural countryside, it is not uncommon for a farming family to have 4 children studying at university, but having 2 children studying abroad in Russia and the US and winning international gold medals twice is truly "unique". With the concept of "giving children silver and gold is not as good as giving them knowledge", the couple worked hard to nurture their children's dreams. That is the family of Mr. Nguyen Tat Dieu (Hamlet 1, Hong Son, Do Luong), 1 of 2 typical studious families in the province attending the 4th National Congress of Commending Families, Students, and Scholars in 2012.
Nguyen Tat Nghia's family on the day of receiving the Gold Medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad
The wife is a farmer, the husband is a retired worker, and is constantly sick, and their economic situation is still difficult, but Mr. Dieu and Mrs. Tuat still try to do all kinds of extra work to create the best conditions possible for their children's education. Although they are busy all day, they still spend about 1 hour every evening to check on their children's studies, talk to them, share with them, understand their thoughts and feelings, guide their studies, encourage them to overcome all difficulties, focus on their studies, and all 4 of their children are obedient and good students. The eldest daughter, Nguyen Thi Phuong, has graduated from Vinh University, Faculty of Foreign Languages, and now teaches English at Do Luong 2 High School. The second son, Nguyen Tat Chau, took the entrance exam to the Military University with a score of 29/30 and was selected to study abroad in the Russian Federation in July 2007. In particular, the third son, Nguyen Tat Nghia (former student of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted), has brought glory to Nghe An with 3 Gold Medals at the International and Regional Physics Olympiads and has been awarded a scholarship by the Government to study in the US. The youngest son, Nguyen Tat Hoang, is currently a 4th year student at the Faculty of Foreign Economics, Hanoi Foreign Trade University.
Mr. Dieu confided: "When all four children were in school, everything valuable in the house was sold, we borrowed money everywhere to pay for our children's tuition, we went without food and clothes to buy books and school supplies for our children... We accepted to sacrifice everything as long as our children grew up and became good people! The most valuable asset of my wife and I is that our four children studied and became successful..."
For many consecutive years, Mr. Dieu and Mrs. Tuat's family was voted as an outstanding studious family and was awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Provincial People's Committee. In 2012, his family was honored to represent thousands of studious families in the province to attend the 4th National Congress of Outstanding Studious Families, Studious Families, and Scholars (2012-2017).
