(Baonghean.vn) -Unlike students in the lowlands, who have their parents pick them up and drop them off at school, or if they go by themselves, they only have to travel a short distance and are busy with people. Students in the highlands, sometimes only in 5th or 6th grade, have to walk away from their parents all day, or stay at school far away from home for a whole month. Therefore, they have more stories to tell.

Follow her to grade 1

I remember once, in an article about students of Na Loi primary and secondary school (Ky Son), we witnessed the scene of Khmu students going to school with bare feet, immersed in mud and cold, but smiles were still bright on each clear face. In some places, their school looked down as small as a handful of yellow corn scattered on the mountainside. Below, in tiny thatched huts temporarily built by their parents, it was easy to see 3 or 4 students gathered around a pot of rice and a book in hand. From the stream, the teasing voices of boys and girls were busy with piles of unfinished laundry. Students in the highlands have gotten used to an independent life from such a young age.

On weekends, class activities are often attended very seriously by students of Nam Can Ethnic Boarding School.

Now, with the attention of many levels and sectors, your schools have been built many times more spacious. But studying away from home for weeks, or even months in some places, is still a private story for students in the mountainous areas. Like Gia Y Hoa, a 6D student at Ky Son Ethnic Boarding Secondary School, from the remote Dooc May commune, shyly confided: "I miss home a lot, but I have friends at school so I gradually get used to it."

School closing time at Nam Can Ethnic Boarding School

At Nam Can ethnic boarding school, there are 211 students, of which 139 have to stay in the same place to study. Because here, from villages like Tham Hin, Nam Khien, Huoi Nhao... to get to school, each student's small feet have to overcome many steep and often muddy roads. And because of that, the school's small but warm wooden roofs, thatched kitchens... are where the students stay to study and learn to live independently, away from their families. At the school, Nam Khien village alone has 43 boarding students, including 14 girls. Every week, the students invite each other to go back to the village to get rice and some food for the next week. The long, foggy and muddy roads still cannot hide the clear laughter of school age.

The "luggage" brought to school for a week of study includes rice, some food and a chicken to raise.

Lau Ba Chua, a student of class 8A, was still carrying a black chicken under his arm on the way back to school, smiling, showing all his chipped teeth: "My parents gave me this chicken to raise at school, not to eat! Going to school with so many friends, we are happy to go far away." Va Ba Nhenh, a student of class 9, was more thoughtful: "Going to school, I get to learn to read and write, and receive the attention of teachers. After finishing school, I am very grateful to my teachers. I want to study more advanced classes, then go back to teach the Hmong children in my hometown!"

Teacher Nguyen Cong Danh, the school principal, could not hide his pride: “I have been teaching in Ky Son for over 22 years, through many schools and classes with many hardships and difficulties. But right here at Nam Can school, despite the many difficulties, teachers and students are truly devoted to the school and the class.”

Students in the highlands, like the cotton flowers growing halfway up the mountain, will bloom fragrant flowers, as pure as the sky and earth of the Western Nghe An region. Then they will spread their wings and fly far away, and one day when their wings are full, they will return to help the place they left so that the younger generation will no longer have to cross the long mountain passes to go to school.
