Car models 'not for sale' in 2016 in Vietnam

October 25, 2016 08:49

Due to the number of customers being higher than the factory's assembly capacity or the number of imported cars being too low, some car models will have to wait until next year to be available.

The auto market is about to enter the year-end shopping season, which is also the transition between generations of each car model. The overwhelming demand for new cars or the scarcity of supply means that customers may have to wait up to half a year if they want to buy a car.

1.Mercedes GLC

Launched in late April 2016, the GLC is considered to have an advantage over its predecessor, the GLK, due to its new design that appeals to both male and female customers, along with upgrades in equipment, comfort, soundproofing, and operation. The number of 650 pre-launch orders was described by Mercedes Vietnam as surprising.

The GLC shares the same platform as the C-class, so to meet customer demand, the German automaker has temporarily limited production of the sedan model and increased production to focus on the crossover. However, the limited capacity of the factory in Ho Chi Minh City is still not enough to meet customer demand immediately. Mercedes representatives and dealers said that if customers place orders at this time, they will have to wait about 6 months, or until April 2017, for delivery.

GLC has two versions in Vietnam: GLC250 4Matic and GLC300 4Matic, both are equipped with 2-liter I4 engines but with different powers. The prices are 1.79 billion and 2.04 billion respectively.

2. Ford Everest

Ford imported Everest from Thailand to sell in Vietnam with prices for the Trend 2.2 version at 1.25 billion, the Titanium 2.2 version at 1.33 billion and the Titanium 3.2 up to 1.936 billion. These prices are higher than nMany competitors Fortuner but the content of safety technology and convenience is much higher.

The American automaker said it had a good response from customers for the mid-size SUV, but of course, the absolute number of units cannot be compared because the price is beyond the reach of many customers. In addition, the supply from Thailand is also not available for Ford Vietnam.

Customers who order Everest at this time will have to wait until 2017, at the earliest at the end of 2016. From the beginning of 2017, Ford will only distribute two versions of Everest, Trend 2.2 and Titanium 2.2, and will stop importing Titanium 3.2 because this version is selling very well in Thailand, and besides, sales in Vietnam are not guaranteed.

In the price range of 2 billion, Ford Vietnam will provide customers with a new option, the Explorer imported from the US, priced at 2.18 billion.

3. Toyota Innova

Similar to the case of the C-class having to give up its production line to the GLC, the MPV Innova also gave up part of its factory capacity to the SUV with the same platform, the Fortuner. The new generation SUV is about to be sold, so the last production batches of the current Fortuner are more sought after due to the psychology that new cars are more expensive than old cars, and many people prefer the simpler design of old cars.

Due to the reduction in factory capacity, the waiting time for the new Innova has increased. Depending on the dealer, some places will have the goods in stock in a month, but others will have to wait for 2-3 months, meaning customers will have to wait until early 2017 to receive the car if they order now.

The new Innova has 3 versions: E, G and V, all equipped with a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine. The E manual transmission version costs 793 million, the G automatic transmission version costs 859 million and the highest-end V version costs 995 million.

4. Rolls-Royce Phantom

Phantom is a special case in the Vietnamese market. The British super luxury sedan is not in short supply, does not have to give up its factory to other cars, but is special in its own way.

The generation of genuine Phantom cars imported to Vietnam in the past few years has officially closed the production line since April 2016 to make room for the new generation. Customers who want to buy a new Phantom will have to wait until mid-2018 to have a car to buy.

In fact, 100% of genuine Rolls-Royce customers in Vietnam choose the bespoke version. The time to complete a standard Phantom is 4 months, plus the bespoke time which can be 1-2 months more and the shipping time, customers may have to wait almost a year to receive the car as desired.

Rolls-Royce prices in Vietnam range from around 20 billion to the highest of 84 billion and there is no limit to the price, because all limits lie in the customer's imagination.
