(Baonghean.vn) - Loofah farmers in Cam Son commune, Anh Son district are very excited because loofah is always "sold out" and sells for a high price, giving them an additional source of income to improve their lives.

These days, farmers in Cam Son commune, Anh Son district - a key squash growing commune in Anh Son are focusing on harvesting squash. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan in Cam Son commune is picking squash in the field and excitedly said: Currently, it is the main squash harvest season, the selling price is quite good, traders come to the field to buy. It is estimated that squash reaches 2 tons/sao, sold at 7,000 - 8,000 VND/kg in the field, achieving an average income of 15 million VND/crop.

A trader who specializes in purchasing aromatic squash here shares: In the hot summer, aromatic squash is very easy to consume, easy to preserve, and easy to transport long distances (mainly packed in foam boxes for transport by car). Fragrant squash can be processed into delicious soups, so it is favored by many consumers. We mainly collect goods to sell in Hanoi and the northern provinces. At this time, aromatic squash is "out of stock", so we have to be at the squash fields every day to buy.

Households growing squash added: Growing squash does not require much investment, mainly using bamboo poles to make trellis, needing to prepare the soil carefully to make beds and fertilize with decomposed manure. After about 40 days of planting, squash begins to be harvested daily, can be harvested continuously for 3-4 months. During the growth period of squash, which is over 1 month, farmers often have to prune, fertilize, and hoe the soil, until the squash covers the trellis for about 2 months, then the squash will bear fruit.

Mr. Hoang Manh Hung - Chairman of Cam Son Commune People's Committee shared: This spring crop, Cam Son commune has over 42 hectares of vegetables, squash, watermelon, including 6 hectares of luffa, which is easy to sell, bringing in a large source of income for the people, so after the harvest, people will continue to grow luffa in the off-season. Currently, the commune is building a brand of clean luffa in an organic direction to increase economic value per unit area.
