(Baonghean.vn) – Located on the Nam Non River, where Ban Ve and Nam Non hydropower plants are located, dozens of houses in Luong Minh commune (Tuong Duong, Nghe An) are at risk of landslides and being swept away at any time.
Located between the two hydroelectric plants of Ban Ve and Nam Non, currently more than 30 households in La, Minh Phuong, and Coi villages (Luong Minh commune - Tuong Duong) are at high risk of landslides, especially during the rainy season. |
Most of the houses located along the Nam Non River have been marked as safe since the establishment of the Ban Ve hydroelectric plant, but for many years now, due to the hydroelectric plant's flood discharge, landslides have come close to the houses of local residents. |
Even solidly built houses have landslides that reach right up to the foundation, causing danger. |
Due to the steep terrain and weak ground, many households in La village always live in fear every time there is a flood. Mr. Lo Van Khuong said: "His house was built before the establishment of Ban Ve hydroelectric plant, but now the landslide has reached only a few meters from his house. Every time the hydroelectric plant releases flood water, everyone in the house cannot sleep for fear of being swept away." |
A sawmill in La village is located next to a eroding river bank. |
Some livestock barns of local people located near the Nam Non River can be swept away at any time. |
Ms. Vi Thi Khay (La village) said: "Every time the hydroelectric plant releases flood water, the water rises up to the ground. When the water recedes, the ground slides down, which is very dangerous." |
Temporary houses located close to the riverbank are not safe. |
The small house pillar is as big as an adult's thigh, close to the river's edge, precarious and dangerous. |
Many households in La village said they also want to move to a safe place, but without land and support, it is very difficult. |
According to statistics from the People's Committee of Luong Minh Commune, Tuong Duong District (Nghe An), there are currently 34 households at high risk of landslides in the 3 villages above, the highest being La Village with 14 households. Mr. Vi Dinh Phuc - Chairman of the People's Committee of the commune said: "Luong Minh is both downstream of Ban Ve Hydropower Plant and upstream of Nam Non Hydropower Plant, so the risk of landslides is inevitable. There are times when the hydropower plant discharges flood water beyond the safety mark, but the relocation has not been implemented due to lack of compensation. In the immediate future, the government is propagating and mobilizing people to relocate themselves, and the commune will support human resources to help people." |
