(Baonghean.vn) -My Ly Border Guard Station is responsible for protecting and managing 46 km of border (including waterways and roads) in the two communes of My Ly and Bac Ly of the remote Ky Son district (Nghe An).

Standing in an area with a rather long border, the lives of the ethnic people here are still difficult, the intellectual level of the people is still limited, so the political tasks can be said to be extremely heavy. However, with efforts, sense of responsibility and love, officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Guard Station always overcome all difficulties to excellently complete their tasks, recognized by the local Party Committee, government and people.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Phuong, Station Chief, said: “For nearly a week now, our comrades have been carrying rice balls and rice packages upstream to open a road to Cha Nga village, the farthest village in the commune. For generations, the only way for Cha Nga people to communicate with the outside world is by boat up and down the Nam Non River. From here, it takes about 5 hours to get to Cha Nga by motorboat.” Major Hoang Van Huy, Political Commissar, added: “There are still some comrades at home raising crops. But the clean water pipeline system to Xieng Tam village was damaged by the flood, so this morning, our soldiers and villagers are going up to repair it at the source of Tam stream, and will probably return in the evening.”

The biggest difficulty of the officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Guard Station is managing a large area with 26 villages in 2 border communes. The terrain conditions are extremely complicated, with many small roads. The lives of the Thai, Khmu and Mong ethnic groups in the border highland area are still very poor, especially in Bac Ly commune, the poverty rate is still over 90%. Not to mention the low level of education of the majority of officers and people. Along with that, the situation of criminal activities (mainly drug crimes) is still quite complicated. However, besides the difficulties, the officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Guard Station also have basic advantages in the process of working. That is, the people of My Ly and Bac Ly communes are always united and trust, comply with the policies and guidelines of the Party and the laws of the State. The local Party Committee, government and political system have been strengthened and gradually operated effectively.

With the above-mentioned special conditions of terrain and population, the My Ly Border Guard Station Command organizes into groups and stations to carry out management work closely and closely. Implementing the policy of strengthening the system of Party committees and grassroots authorities, currently the Party Committee and the Station Executive Committee have one comrade as Secretary of the Bac Ly Commune Party Committee and one comrade as Deputy Secretary of the My Ly Commune Party Committee. In addition, there are 4 party members being reinforced for 4 weak village party cells. After a period of implementing the policy of strengthening cadres and party members at the grassroots level, it has proven to be quite effective. The living habits of the party cells are regularly maintained; the relationship between the Party committees, authorities and organizations is increasingly consolidated, connected and promoted effectively; a number of cadres and party members from weak positions have now risen to be quite good and fulfilled their tasks well. Notably, in the past time, the party cells in My Ly and Bac Ly have developed 20 new party members. According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Xuan Phuong, the My Ly Border Guard Station is planning to build a combined military-civilian medical station in Huoi Bac village (Bac Ly commune). When completed and put into use, the medical station will strengthen medical examination and treatment for ethnic people, push back backward customs and further strengthen the military-civilian relationship.

Along with implementing the policy of strengthening the Party Committee, the government and the grassroots political system, the officers and soldiers of My Ly Border Guard Station also stepped up the fight against all kinds of crimes. In 2011 alone, the station arrested and prosecuted 6 cases/6 subjects of drug trafficking and use, confiscating 3 kg of heroin. In addition, the station's Executive Committee also organized drug rehabilitation for 39 subjects in the area (15 subjects of compulsory drug rehabilitation, 24 subjects of community drug rehabilitation). Along with that, the work of mobilizing and propagating to raise awareness for the people is always focused on by the officers and soldiers of the border guard. Therefore, the fight against all kinds of crimes is increasingly effective, because besides the border guards, there is always the support of the government and a large number of people.

Talking to us, Mr. Kha Van Nghe, Secretary of the Party Committee of My Ly commune affirmed: “Receiving the enthusiastic and effective help of the officers and soldiers of the border post, the ethnic people here always feel secure in living and producing. The people love the officers and soldiers very much, because they are the ones who guard the peace of their homeland.”
