People who bring glory to Nghe An land of learning
(Baonghean) -4 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals, 6 Bronze Medals and many Certificates of Merit at International and Asian Olympic competitions, not to mention thousands of National Excellent Student titles, have shown the extremely excellent achievements of students of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted over the past 40 years...
The beginning of the glorious conquests in the Asian and international Olympic competitions of Phan school students was Dinh Van Dung (currently a PhD, Deputy Director of the Institute of Posts and Telecommunications - Hanoi National University). That was in 1983, the first time Phan school had students selected for the national team to participate in the International Mathematical Olympiad in Romania. Although the first trip "bringing gongs to play in foreign lands" was not successful, it still brought valuable experiences and especially the belief and motivation for teachers and students of Phan school of the next generations to strive for higher achievements in the past 10 years.

Since 1985, when the country entered the period of innovation, education and training were considered the top national policy, Phan Boi Chau High School was identified as the spearhead in the local talent training strategy and the province focused on investing heavily in both facilities and highly qualified teachers. In 1986, Phan School (then called Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted) continued to have 1 more student on the official list of the national team participating in the International Math Olympiad, that was Doan An Hai. Like his seniors, Doan An Hai still could not win the laurel wreath, however, later one of the excellent students of Phan School also had outstanding successes in the field of science. Currently a professor at the University of Illinois, USA, Doan An Hai is the third Asian (after two candidates from India and China) to receive the “Outstanding Doctoral Thesis” award from the American Academy of Sciences. In 1990, Phan Boi Chau High School had a third student on the list representing Vietnamese education to compete with excellent students from other countries around the world. That was Nguyen Huu Trung, who participated in the International Physics Olympiad. However, it was not until 1991 that the efforts of teachers and students of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted began to bring resounding results.
The person who topped the list of the school's international excellent students also has the surname Phan and is the son of the excellent teacher Phan Huy Tuan (former Vice Principal of the school). In the International Mathematical Olympiad held in Sweden in 1991, Phan Ba Tu won the Silver Medal. This achievement not only made the teachers and students of Phan Boi Chau High School proud after many years of efforts but also opened up a new strategic direction and a more suitable training method to continuously update with the rapid development of modern science. At the same time, Phan Huy Tu became a shining example for the next generations of Phan School students.
The Phan Huy Tu learning movement was launched by teachers and students of Phan School. Only 2 years later (1993), the Phan School's international excellent student achievement list was added, the person who brought this pride was Truong Ba Tu (K20 Math major). What is special is that in 1993, Truong Ba Tu was an 11th grade student, but he was able to join the national team with many seniors in 12th grade and he excellently won the silver medal. Both of the excellent students who won the first international award of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted are currently pursuing different fields, but have both achieved certain successes. Phan Huy Tu is currently a PhD - senior programming expert of Microsoft (USA); Truong Ba Tu is currently a PhD - Director of Nhat Viet Group Company (headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City).
In 1997, the Phan School's international excellent student achievement list recorded the third student, Nguyen Canh Hao (son of teacher Nguyen Canh Cung, Physics teacher of the school). Canh Hao won a silver medal at the 1997 International Math Olympiad held in Argentina. In 1999, Phan School continued to be honored when Ho Ngoc Ky brought home a silver medal at the Asia-Pacific Math Olympiad. Continuing the pride of his seniors, in 2000, Dao Anh Duc was the first student of Phan School to achieve a "double", within just 1 year, Duc won 2 international excellent student titles: Bronze medal at the Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad and Bronze medal at the World Physics Olympiad.
From that initial foundation, entering the 21st century, when the tradition and quality of education and training of the school named after the patriotic scholar and national cultural celebrity Phan Boi Chau have been affirmed, generations of Phan school students have continuously brought back glories from national and international excellent student competitions. In 2002, at the 34th World Chemistry Olympiad held in the Netherlands, Dao Thanh Hai won the silver medal; in 2004, Pham Trong Truong won the bronze medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad; in 2006, Phan Huu Thanh won the bronze medal at the World Physics Olympiad. Especially in two consecutive years (2007 - 2008), the pinnacle of education and training quality of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted was affirmed when an excellent student Nguyen Tat Nghia won the gold medal for the first time at an international excellent student competition. Not only that, Nguyen Tat Nghia also achieved a "golden hattrick" by winning 2 gold medals at the World Physics Olympiad in 2007 and 2008 and 1 gold medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad in 2008.
In recent years, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted has always been in the top 3 of national excellent student competitions, the number of students who were selected to participate in international Olympic competitions and achieved high results is also very large. For example: In 2010, Ho Sy Viet Anh and Nguyen Canh Toan won the Certificate of Merit at the World Informatics Olympiad held in Canada; In 2011, Nguyen Dinh Hoi won the Silver Medal and Nguyen Trung Hung won the Certificate of Merit at the World Physics Olympiad (Nguyen Trung Hung also won a Bronze Medal at the Asia-Pacific Physics Olympiad); Nguyen Huy Hoang won the Bronze Medal at the Asian Physics Olympiad and the Gold Medal at the World Physics Olympiad. In 2013, Phan School also had 2 international excellent students: Thai Dinh Phuc (won the Bronze Medal at the Asian Informatics Olympiad) and Cao Ngoc Thai (the only 11th grader in the country to participate in the Asian Physics Olympiad and won the Certificate of Merit). In the 2013-2014 school year, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted won 84 national prizes – the high school with the highest national results in the country, including 12 students who were selected to compete in the second round of the Vietnam team to participate in the 2014 international competition.
Mr. Tran Trung Hieu - History teacher at Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, commented: "The important thing is that all the excellent students who won the international excellent student award, as well as most other students of Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted, have been successful after leaving school. This affirms that the school's education and training methods are very correct, not only equipping students with basic knowledge of science but also helping them orient their future careers so that after growing up, they can easily integrate into the social environment."
Not only achieving high results in excellent student competitions, over the past 40 years, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted has also been one of the leading schools in the country in terms of the percentage of students passing the entrance exams to universities and colleges. Many students who have grown up here are currently assigned to hold important positions in agencies, departments, and branches of the Party, the State, all levels of government, and many organizations and businesses. Those leading birds are the pride of the school named after patriot Phan Boi Chau in particular and also the pride of Nghe An in general.
