Outstanding events in the world and Vietnamese entertainment industry in 2014
If in the world, Taylor Swift "saved" the music industry with the album "1989", then in Vietnam, singer Son Tung M-TP caused an unprecedented uproar about whether or not he plagiarized music. In the film industry, the world had to witness the regrettable deaths of big names.
International music
1. “Happy” - the most outstanding song of the year
In 2014, the new K-pop forces did not create another “Gangnam Style”-like sensation. And Pharrell’s “Happy” surpassed “Let It Go” from the movie “Frozen” to become the most prominent song of the year due to its stronger “socialization” factor, when it created many covers, remixes and was “applied” in many different activities.

In late October 2014, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that the soundtrack album for the movie “Frozen” was the only music product to achieve Platinum status in 2014. Fortunately, Taylor Swift’s album “1989” broke the gloomy atmosphere of the music industry in 2014. After only 2 weeks of release, this album sold more than 1.2 million copies.
3. World artists "fight" against Ebola
Thirty years after the song “Do They Know It's Christmas” was released to raise money for the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia, a series of British artists such as Chris Martin, Ed Sheehan and Sam Smith... have recorded this song together and the proceeds from the album released on November 17 will be used to fight the Ebola epidemic.
On the evening of November 16, when the first images of this project were announced on the X-Factor program, it created a strong wave of support and deeply moved the global netizens. The meaningful melody of this song will certainly resound throughout the Christmas season of 2014 and is certainly a beautiful event to close a year of the world music scene.
International cinema:
1. Brad Pitt became the most successful man in Hollywood in 2014 when, at the beginning of the year, the movie “12 Years a Slave” which he produced won the Oscar for Best Picture. At the end of the year, the movie “Fury” in which he played the main role was highly appreciated, and is also a promising movie for next year’s Oscar season. Not to mention, 2014 was also the year Brad Pitt chose to officially hold his wedding ceremony with the woman the world dreams of, Angelina Jolie.

2. Regrettable deaths: After the young actor Paul Walker suddenly passed away at the end of 2013, the world witnessed the passing of a series of talents that shocked fans. First was actor Philip Seymour Hoffman (due to drug shock), then comedian Robin Williams (suicide). In addition, the passing of legends Lauren Bacall, Mickey Rooney, Shirley Temple also made many people regret.
3. 2014 was a disappointing summer in Hollywood. Compared to previous seasons, this year's summer movie season saw a dramatic decline in domestic box office revenue. While last year there were two films that earned more than $300 million, "Iron Man 3" ($409 million) and "Despicable Me 2" ($368 million), this year only "Guardians of the Galaxy" did that ($330 million). Many other major films failed to achieve their expected revenue, including "Transformers: Age of Extinction", "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", "How to Train Your Dragon 2"...
Vietnam
1. In 2014, young director Nguyen Hoang Diep made a name for Vietnamese cinema at a prestigious international film festival, when her film, “Flapping in the Middle of Nowhere,” won the Best Film award at the Venice International Critics Week, on the sidelines of the Venice Film Festival.

2. For the first time, Vietnam has a true music festival: The Monsoon Music Festival program initiated and organized by musician Quoc Trung in early October 2014 received enthusiastic attention from the audience in Hanoi, with about 10,000 audiences each day. This is the premise for annual music festivals to be held in the near future in Vietnam.
3. Plagiarism, not a new story but has become the center of noise at the end of the year. The incident involves a young singer who owns a huge domestic fan base, Son Tung M-TP. A "council" of famous musicians concluded that Son Tung's new song "Chac ai do se ve" is a plagiarized product. But then, some people spoke up to analyze this incident with a more lenient view, with the reason that Son Tung is a young writer, and the fault of young people is partly due to adults.
