(Baonghean.vn) -The People's Committee of Quynh Luu district and the People's Committee of Quynh Trang commune have just held a groundbreaking ceremony to build a charity house for four orphans in hamlet 12, Quynh Trang commune, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An).

Previously, after Nghe An Newspaper and other press agencies reported on the tragic situation of Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Binh (born in 1960, residing in Hamlet 12, Quynh Trang Commune, Quynh Luu District) while catching snails in Nuoc Mam stream (about 500 meters from home) to sell for rice, he unfortunately drowned.

At around 9am on September 13, after finding some snails, Mr. Binh carried his son and swam to the other side to continue searching. When he was almost there, he got a cramp, his son was struggling on his back, trying his best, Mr. Binh came up and used his head to hit his son to the shore while he himself sank to the bottom. Hearing Dong's cry for help, everyone ran to him, but it was too late. An hour later, Mr. Binh's body was brought to shore, still carrying a heavy bag of snails and a pair of white sandals under his armpit.

Mr. Binh's family has 5 children. 4 years ago, the eldest daughter (born in 1993) also went to catch snails and drowned in the stream above. In December 2010, his wife died of cancer, his second son was mentally ill, and he was born with a disability, unable to move his left hand. The two younger daughters, Phuong (born in 1997) and Phuong (born in 2000), also stayed home with their father to catch crabs and snails, collect firewood, and work for a living. He passed away, leaving behind 4 children alone in 2 empty houses without any valuable property.

Representatives of Quynh Luu District People's Committee and Quynh Trang Commune People's Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony to build a house for four orphaned brothers.

Immediately after the incident, leaders of Quynh Luu district directly visited Mr. Binh's family to encourage, visit and give 2 million VND to the 4 brothers. Witnessing the two-room "house" with the sky above and the wind around, Quynh Luu district decided to take 30 million VND from the district's social fund to build a charity house for the children and assigned the local government to plan the construction.

On the 50th day of Mr. Binh's week, representatives of departments, organizations of Quynh Luu district, and the government of Quynh Trang commune held a groundbreaking ceremony to start building a charity house for the four brothers. According to the plan, the charity house is designed with 3 compartments divided into 4 rooms to have separate living space for the family members with a total cost of about 120 million VND. In addition to the cooperation of the government and readers who supported the material, the people and neighbors also supported the labor to build the charity house for the four orphans so that the house could be put into use soon.

It is known that up to now, the kind-hearted people at home and abroad have supported the orphans with 240 million VND. Luong - the first son of Mr. Binh has paid 40 million VND of debt left by his parents. Because in the family, his younger sister Nguyen Thi Phuong (15 years old) has a congenital heart disease, so to ensure her long-term life and save money for her heart surgery, Luong deposited 100 million VND in the bank, bought a pair of cows and built a barn for about 20 million VND.

Nguyen Ngoc Luong confided: “Even in our dreams, my brothers and I never thought that one day we would be able to repair our house. Thanks to the kindness of our aunts and uncles, this winter our brothers and I will not have to live in the old, dilapidated house anymore.”

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Tran Van Tuan - Vice Chairman of Quynh Trang Commune People's Committee shared: "We don't know what else to say to express our gratitude to the benefactors at home and abroad who have helped Mr. Binh's children overcome difficulties. Now the children have paid off all their debts, have money to continue going to school and have capital to raise livestock and develop the economy."
