Tragic drowning incidents across the country since the beginning of 2017
(Baonghean.vn) - Since the beginning of the year, there have been consecutive tragic drowning incidents involving school-age children across the country.

At around 11:50 a.m. on March 26, a group of three students from Nguyen Trai Secondary School (Ai Nghia town, Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province) invited each other to go to Da Nang to play and went to Xuan Thieu beach, Lien Chieu district to swim.
Due to the big waves, all three students were swept away and drowned at sea. Coast Guard immediately responded to the rescue but all of them died.
The bodies of the three students were then brought ashore for autopsy and handed over to their families. The unfortunate victims were identified as: Nguyen Van Hung, Le Viet Cuong, Le Phuoc Nhat (all born in 2002, residing in Ai Nghia town, Dai Loc district, Quang Nam).

The incident occurred in the early afternoon of March 29 in the flooded area of Se San hydroelectric lake (in Tang village, Ia O border commune, Ia Grai district, Gia Lai).
Five sixth grade female students of Chu Van An Secondary School, including Hoang Thi Hoa, Vo Ngoc My, Le Thi Quynh Huong, Le Thi Minh Thu and Nguyen Thi Thu Phuong, went swimming together and drowned. While the other four sixth grade female students were swimming, Phuong was on the shore. Seeing her friends drowning, Phuong grabbed a tree branch and tried to save them but was unsuccessful. After that, Phuong ran to a residential area about 1km from the lake to call for help.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, the first person to run to the lake, said he dived down and pulled a child to shore and tried to save him, but the child had died because he had been drowning for quite a while.
8th grade male student drowned while bathing in the river
At around 9am on March 18, a group of 8A7 students from Vo Xan Secondary School, Tay Son (Binh Dinh) and their homeroom teacher went to camp to celebrate the founding day of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on March 26.
While camping, a group of about 14 friends (both male and female) went to the Kon River bank (in Block 1 town, Tay Son district, Binh Dinh) to bathe. Here, 5 boys jumped in to bathe and play in the water, then were swept away and drowned.
Hearing the screams, people nearby came to the rescue and took the four students to the hospital for emergency treatment. Only Duong Khang fell into deep water and drowned.

At around 3:30 p.m. on January 1, people passing by the construction site of Provincial Road 944 in An Thuan Hamlet, Hoa Binh Commune, An Giang Province discovered the body of 12-year-old Truong Huu Vinh floating on the water, so they retrieved him and brought him to shore.
Observing on the shore nearby, they saw 2 pairs of sandals and 2 sets of clothes, so everyone informed the local authorities and family to continue searching. At noon on January 2, the body of Huynh Tan Thuan, 13 years old, was also found nearby. Both were from Hoa Binh commune.
Both were 7th grade students at Hoa Binh Secondary School. During the New Year holiday, Thuan and Vinh went swimming in the area where sand was being pumped for the construction of Provincial Road 944, resulting in their drowning.

On the morning of April 2, three children, Dang Ngoc Quan (born 2007), Nguyen Tho Phuong (born 2008) and Dang Ngoc Hoang (born 2004), all residing in Xuan Son commune, Do Luong, Nghe An, herded cows to the Bau Han dam area to graze.
Seeing the waterfowl, Quan and Phuong chased after it to catch it. Unfortunately, the two fell into deep water and drowned. Seeing the two struggling, Hoang used a pole to save them but could not.
Hearing Hoang's cries for help, some nearby residents ran to help. However, due to the depth of the water, they could not save the children. It was not until around 9:30 a.m. that the bodies of Quan and Phuong were found.

At around 2:00 p.m. on February 18, at the irrigation lake in village 1, Loc Phu commune, Bao Lam district (Lam Dong), three children, Nguyen Van Tuan (8 years old), Duong Vu Hoang (8 years old) and Duong Thi Khanh Vy (5 years old, all living in village 1, Loc Phu commune, Bao Lam) invited each other to go to the irrigation lake to play.
When they saw a local fishing boat parked by the lake's edge, Tuan and Vy climbed in and rowed out to the lake to play, but Hoang did not get in. When the two children rowed the boat about 10 meters away from shore, the boat capsized, causing Tuan and Vy to fall into the lake.
On the morning of February 19, rescue forces from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Lam Dong province in Bao Loc city and local people recovered the bodies of Tuan and Vy.

At around 2:00 p.m. on January 11, T. (15 years old, residing in District 7) went to Ong Lon River, below Him Lam Bridge (Tan Hung Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) to swim with a group of friends. While swimming, T. unfortunately drowned.
Discovering the incident, T.'s friends who were bathing with him shouted for nearby people to swim out to rescue him, but it was too late.
