On 21 October 2015, a single-seat F/A-18 crashed while returning to the US from a combat mission in the Middle East. The aircraft had taken off from RAF Lakenheath in eastern England. Cambridgeshire Fire Service said it received a call about the crash at around 10:30 a.m. on a farm in Redmere, Cambridgeshire, about 7 miles (11 km) from Lakenheath.

On May 26, 2016, during a routine training exercise, two US Navy F/A-18 fighter jets collided and crashed off the coast of North Carolina, USA. The incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. (local time). The four pilots were able to escape in time and were taken to a hospital in Norfolk, Virginia by the Coast Guard.

At 10:30 p.m. local time on July 28, 2016, a US Marine Corps (Navy) fighter jet crashed during a training flight near Twentynine Palms, California. The crashed aircraft was an F-18 fighter jet, a single-seat naval version of the F/A-18C Hornet. The crash killed the pilot of the aircraft.

The F/A18C fighter jet crashed at around 6 p.m. local time on October 25, 2016, as it was about to end a training flight at the Marine Corps airfield in California, according to AP on October 26, 2016. US Marine Corps spokesman John Roberts said the pilot landed and then for unknown reasons had to parachute out of the plane.

A US Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet crashed in Japan on December 7, 2016. The pilot ejected at 6:40 p.m. local time, about 200 kilometers southeast of Iwakuni City.
The plane that crashed belonged to the 1st Marine Aircraft Force and was on a routine training mission. The incident occurred at the same time that US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter was in Japan to mark the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor incident.
