Will Nico Kovac be the new coach of Bayern Munich?
According to Bild (Germany), the person who will succeed 72-year-old coach Jupp Heynckes at Bayern Munich after the 2017/18 season will most likely be Niko Kovac of Eintracht Frankfurt.
After firing Carlo Ancelotti, Bayern Munich's board of directors invited coach Jupp Heynckes back with a short-term contract until the end of the 2017/18 season.
Immediately after his return, the 72-year-old coach helped Bayern play well, quickly winning the 2017/18 Bundesliga title. The team is also maintaining its chance to win the "treble" this season when it reached the semi-finals of the German National Cup and Champions League.
However, Heynckes' age and his confirmation that he will not continue working next season have forced Bayern's board of directors to find a new captain.
After a long time of considering and evaluating many potential candidates such as Luis Enrique, Thomas Tuchel, Julian Nagelsmann, Lucien Favre... according to Bild, it seems that the Bavarian team has chosen a replacement name.
Specifically, Bayern decided to invite former player Niko Kovac back to Allianz Arena from the 2018/19 season after being impressed with what he did with Frankfurt.
This season, Kovac has led Frankfurt, a club with limited potential, to play explosively and is currently ranked 5th in the Bundesliga with 46 points. The team still has a chance to participate in the 2018/19 Champions League when it is only 2 points behind Bayer Leverkusen.
During his playing days, Niko Kovac played for Bayern (2001-2003) and won a number of notable titles such as the 2001 Intercontinental Cup (the predecessor of the FIFA Club World Cup), the 2002/03 Bundesliga and the 2002/03 German National Cup.
Also related to Bayern, the club has successfully convinced the duo Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery to extend their contracts for 1 year. The official announcement on these 2 cases will be made in the next 2 weeks./.
