(Baonghean) - These days, all the roads of Hamlet 2-9, Chau Khe border commune (Con Cuong) are red with flags and joy is present on every face. People here are looking forward to Independence Day. Besides, the people of Hamlet 2-9 also have another joy which is celebrating the 52nd anniversary of the founding of the hamlet...

To reach village 2-9, one must pass through vast sugarcane fields, with a total area of nearly 50 hectares. At this time, the sugarcane plants have grown tall and are full of water, and their fragrance wafts through the air.

Welcoming guests from the beginning of the road, Village Chief Tran Van Hung boasted: “For more than 5 years now, our village has been growing thanks to sugarcane. Sugarcane is the main source of income, helping people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, and even become well-off. Currently, the village has 128 households (591 people), of which 28 are poor, 15 are near-poor, and the rest are well-off.”

Along with sugarcane, the people of village 2-9 also take advantage of the land to grow corn, rice, cassava and develop livestock (mainly buffalo and cows) to develop the economy and improve their lives. During the off-season, the people here also form groups of masons and carpenters to increase their income. Thanks to that, the average income of the village is currently at 12 million VND/person/year. The socio-economic life has gradually improved, all children of school age are able to go to school, there is no situation of dropping out of school halfway...

We visited the house of Mr. Pham Xuan Hong (80 years old), one of the first people to set foot on this land to reclaim it, to better understand the name of Hamlet 2-9. According to Mr. Hong, in 1961, Nghe An Provincial Youth Union instructed Nam Dan District Youth Union to gather 500 young men and women to go to the mountainous district of Con Cuong to establish farms and promote economic development.

On September 2, 1961, the 2-9 Farm was established and began to reclaim land, expand production, and contribute to the construction of the Socialist North. At first, the farm was still under the District Youth Union, but in 1963, for easier management, it was transferred to Con Cuong District.

This year, the farm was honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal approved by Vice President Ton Duc Thang. Mr. Pham Xuan Hong was the first director of Farm 2-9. At that time, the farm was an independent unit, until 1969 when it was merged into Chau Khe commune. In 1996, Farm 2-9 became a village of Chau Khe commune and was named Village 2-9.

During the war years, many members of the 2-9 farm continued to be mobilized to build new economic zones throughout the western districts. And many people registered to join the army, contributing to the glorious victory. The remaining people continued to stay on the strip of land running along the Lam River and the forest strip along the border to make a living. Up to now, the 2-9 village has a history of 52 years and has gone through 4 generations. More than half a century has passed, generations of people here have turned the wild land into a green and prosperous one. Mr. Hong could not hide his joy and pride: "52 years ago, we came here with only a backpack containing clothes, hoes, shovels, and machetes. Now, the 2-9 village is a decent and prosperous establishment."

Village road 2-9 is concreted.

Village 2-9 now has many beautiful and spacious houses. Some households have bought trucks and tractors to serve production. Household fences have been built straight. Many roads have been concreted. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai - Secretary of the village Party cell said: "Not counting the amount invested in previous years, implementing the New Rural Construction Program, in 2012 alone, village 2-9 built 1,800m of concrete road. The remaining part is expected to be completed this year". In recent years, village 2-9 has truly become the leading flag of Chau Khe commune in socio-economic development movements, recognized as Cultural Village since 2000. The village Party cell has achieved the title of "Clean and Strong" for many years, and in 2012 it achieved the title of "Typical Strong".

The Community Cultural House, soccer field, and volleyball court have been prepared and decorated to celebrate Independence Day. Village Chief Hung happily said: “It has become a beautiful tradition, every year on Independence Day, Village 2-9 organizes cultural and sports exchanges. This is also the anniversary of the village’s founding, so the joy and pride are multiplied, and children studying and working far away also come back. It is truly a festival!”
