Over the past 6 years, the terrorist group Boko Haram has carried out many attacks, suicide bombings, kidnappings... in the northern region of the country, killing more than 13,000 people. Faced with this situation, President Buhari said that efforts against Boko Haram were not enough and emphasized that he would do everything possible to defeat terrorism in Nigeria. In addition, President Buhari also pledged to fight against the evils that are causing Nigeria to increasingly decline, especially to devote all his efforts to the fight against corruption.
Mr. Buhari's statements seem to be trying to prove that his election will open a new page in Nigeria's history. Because this is the first time Nigeria has had an opposition candidate who can defeat the incumbent President in a democratic election.
Since gaining independence in 1960, Nigeria's political situation has been unstable with 6 coups. Therefore, the election of Muhammadu Buhari as the new President of Nigeria has made observers hope that this will become a new milestone in the political history of this African country. In addition to the presidential election, this time also took place the election of the Nigerian parliament. Currently, the results of the parliamentary election have not been announced.
