Gas explosion near children's hospital in Mexico

(Baonghean.vn) - On Thursday, January 29, a gas explosion occurred near a children's hospital located in southern Mexico City, killing at least 2 people and injuring 58 others.

On Thursday morning, in the latest report, about 40% of the Cuajimalpaz Maternal and Child Hospital located in the south of Mexico City was damaged in a gas explosion. The initial cause of the explosion is believed to have come from a truck with a gas leak.

According to the latest statistics from the city hall, at least two people were killed, not seven as initially reported, and up to 22 children were injured among the 58 people rescued from the rubble.

Immediately after the explosion, Mr. Fausto Lugo - the person responsible for security for the capital's people said on Foro TV that up to this point there were "3 confirmed deaths". In addition, Mr. Lugo also said that the human losses could increase as the search and rescue operation has not ended.

Mexico City Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera said the injured were taken to the nearest hospitals for treatment. Most of the victims were injured by flying glass.

According to Mayor Mancera, it is necessary to evacuate everyone from the hospital because there are many children in the hospital when the explosion happened. Meanwhile, firefighters continue to put out the fire and rescue people trapped under the rubble.
