Efforts to preserve and develop the province's Oriental medicine
(Baonghean) - Established in 1959 with an initial membership of only nearly 100 people, up to now, Nghe An Provincial Oriental Medicine Association has a wide network of associations and members from district to commune and ward levels, contributing to the preservation and development of the province's Oriental medicine sector while working with the health sector to examine, treat and care for the health of local people. During the 2010 - 2015 term, the Provincial Oriental Medicine Association has left many important marks in the work of disease prevention and control, medical examination and treatment and the preservation of rare medicinal resources...
Network Development and Organization
During the past term, Nghe An Oriental Medicine Association has continuously improved the organization of the Association, developed its members and built a strong Association, contributing to supporting its members' activities. In 2010, the Association had 18/20 district, city and town level units with associations, and up to now, the association network has covered the whole province in 20/20 districts, cities and towns. In particular, the Oriental Medicine Association has coordinated with the Provincial Border Guard Command to establish the Oriental Medicine Association of the Border Guard Military Medicine with over 40 members serving and taking care of the health of people in 42 border communes. The Association's organization has continuously improved, the number of members continues to increase and they are increasingly highly qualified and professional, actively participating, making an important contribution to the development of the Oriental Medicine sector in the province.

As a professional social organization, the Provincial Oriental Medicine Association is a place for association activities, professional exchange, development and preservation of valuable medicinal recipes, important medicinal plants and animals. In coordination with central units, leading professors are invited to provide professional training for thousands of members. The Association has presided over the compilation of the book "Oriental Medicine Recipes of Nghe An" which collects more than 1,000 good recipes as a valuable reference document for those working in Oriental medicine or researching Oriental medicine. Thoroughly understanding the inheritance work as an urgent and regular task, the Association always collects from the people, especially ethnic minority areas, good recipes and valuable medicinal plants so as not to let them be lost. The Association also participates in the project of preserving and protecting special-use forests in Que Phong; directs district associations to guide members to coordinate with commune and ward health stations to build model gardens of traditional medicine that meet national standards. In particular, there are members such as physician Hung in Quy Hop who has taken care of a medicinal garden of more than 7 hectares with over 300 types of medicinal plants, including many rare medicinal plants with high medicinal value such as tang ki sinh, la khoi tim... Every year, dozens of tons are harvested to serve local patients and exported to other places.
Scientific research work has been well directed and implemented. In the past 5 years, members have researched, synthesized, and developed over 30 topics, many of which are of high quality and have been applied to medical examination and treatment, bringing high efficiency. Regarding training, the Association has coordinated with units with the function of training traditional medicine human resources, and has trained 100 traditional medicine physicians who are the core for oriental medicine activities at the grassroots level.
Strengthening medical examination and treatment
Identifying medical examination and treatment as the core task and the most important function of the Association, over the years the Association's leaders have continuously directed and guided members to effectively implement disease prevention work in the area such as dengue fever, diarrhea, pink eye... which has been recognized by departments, branches and people. In order to promote medical examination and treatment, the whole province has 282 units with 250 diagnostic teams and over 250 private clinics with nearly 2,000 members. In particular, there are communes with hundreds of members such as Hanh Dich commune (Que Phong). The number of members with professional qualifications continues to increase, such as Specialist I, Specialist II (150 people), Oriental medicine doctors, pharmacists... From 2010-2015, all levels of the association have examined and treated nearly 5 million patients, many private clinics have cured many serious and incurable diseases that Western medicine still has difficulty with, such as the clinic of physician Phung in Do Luong, physician Hung in Quy Hop, physician Ty, doctor Hoanh in Vinh City, physician Xuan in Con Cuong, physician Hoi at the Applied Inheritance Center... Promoting professional activities to improve the quality of medical examination and treatment for people's health, each member has applied all measures using medicine and not using medicine such as acupuncture, massage, acupressure, injection, steam bath... the manipulation techniques are increasingly trusted by many patients, the reputation of treating diseases with Oriental medicine is increasingly high.
Along with medical examination and treatment for community health care, the Association also always pays attention to charitable medical examination and treatment for policy beneficiaries such as war invalids, sick soldiers, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, the elderly, and the poor. In the past 5 years, the Association at all levels has examined and provided free medicine to nearly 10,000 patients, worth over 1.5 billion VND. In addition, the Association has actively responded to the Fatherland Front's campaigns to support rice and medicine for people affected by floods, and to support Tet money for the poor...
It can be said that during the 2010 - 2015 term, the Association not only fulfilled its role well but also focused on promoting the emulation movement of learning and creativity, constantly promoting the comprehensive development of the Oriental Medicine industry. At the same time, it improved the capacity of medical examination and treatment, joined hands in preventing and fighting epidemics and promoted good medical ethics in medical practice. With the great contributions of the Association to the development of the Oriental Medicine industry in general and in the work of preventing and fighting epidemics and medical examination and treatment in particular, Nghe An Oriental Medicine Association was awarded the Flag of Excellent Emulation Unit for 5 years by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Oriental Medicine Association; the State awarded the Second Class Labor Medal; Third Class Labor Medal to individuals and many other noble awards.
