Efforts to provide clean water to coastal town

(Baonghean) - The prolonged hot and dry weather has greatly affected the exploitation of underground water resources (at Nam Cam Industrial Park) serving the Cua Lo town water plant. Along with that, the demand for clean water during the 2016 beach tourism season has increased, creating great pressure on the water supply sector in Cua Lo.

Currently, in Cua Lo town, there are more than 3,700 customers using clean water from Cua Lo Water Supply Joint Stock Company, many of whom are large-scale production and business enterprises, especially in the summer when the demand for clean water increases by 120 - 150%, while the operating capacity is only 3,000 m3/day.

Operation of Cua Lo water supply system

Mr. Vo Sy Que - Deputy Director of Cua Lo Water Supply Joint Stock Company said: "Since 2015, the company has invested nearly 3 billion VND to install an additional 4 km pipeline to take clean water from the water supply system of the Vinh sub-region water plant, thereby increasing the water supply capacity to 1,500 m3/day. In total, the unit has a capacity of 4,500 m3/day, but during the peak summer season, each day still needs about 1,000 m3 of clean water to meet the needs of customers. To overcome this situation, the company has strengthened management, operation, and prevention of water loss (currently the water loss rate is more than 19%) and promoted and mobilized people to use water economically."

Previously, the water supply pipeline system was not developed, in some areas the underground water source was polluted and people wanted to use tap water but the company could not meet it. In response to that urgent need, Cua Lo town and businesses, together with the people, joined hands to invest in the pipeline network and currently, the clean water supply pipeline network has covered 7 wards of Cua Lo town..

Mr. Duong Ngoc Hung - Head of Planning Department, Cua Lo Water Supply Joint Stock Company said: "According to statistics, currently in addition to the raw water pipeline and the level 1 pipeline - D250 with a length of 27,000m, the level 2 water pipeline - D200 has a length of 10,000m and the level 3 pipeline - D110 to 160 has a length of more than 40,000m, this is a pipeline connecting directly to households and water users. In the coming time, the company will continue to mobilize and focus on investing in developing the water supply system in Nghi Hoa ward to meet the needs of clean water for households".

Due to the expansion of the water supply network, more and more households in Cua Lo area are using clean water... Mr. Dang Ngoc Huong in Block 7, Nghi Tan Ward said: "Thanks to using tap water, my family feels more secure and especially meets the requirements of my family's shop. Therefore, my family uses about 20 m3 of clean water every month and even in the summer, there is no fear of a lack of clean water."

Currently, in Nghi Tan ward, more than 1,000 households use tap water, Nghi Thuy ward has more than 1,200 households... Along with that, the Water Supply Joint Stock Company also provides 15,000 m³Clean water/month for Vinamilk Milk Factory, Hanoi Brewery (in Nam Cam Industrial Park) 20,000 m³/month and 80 units are administrative agencies. These are stable water users and this helps water supply enterprises to be proactive in production and business.

Due to the nature of the beach tourism season in Cua Lo, the hotel and restaurant system always attracts tourists, so the demand for clean water increases dramatically in the summer months and the rest of the year, most customers in the tourism industry do not use tap water. In fact, this is because the Cua Lo water supply industry has difficulty in investing and improving water supply capacity.

Mr. Phung Xuan Toan - Technical Officer of Muong Thanh Hotel - Cua Lo said: "At this stage, the hotel uses more than 4,000 m3 per month.³clean water, but in other seasons of the year, the amount of water used is not much. Although there is a difference in the volume of tap water use according to the season, the hotel is always promptly met by the water supply company at any stage". It is known that at the Green Hotel, Saigon - Kim Lien Hotel, Gold Courtyard, Loc Chau Apartment Complex... are customers who use clean water in large volumes, but there are many measures to use clean water very effectively.

To proactively supply water and meet the increasing demand for clean water in the coastal town of Cua Lo, in 2016, Cua Lo Town Water Supply Joint Stock Company is actively implementing the project to renovate and expand Cua Lo Water Plant from 3,000 m3 to 13,000 m3/day and is implemented from a loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). According to the plan in the third quarter of 2016, bidding will be conducted for the construction and installation of the project to renovate and expand Cua Lo Water Plant, so that after completion of the project, it will have enough capacity to meet the demand for clean water in the area and surrounding areas.
