In the announcement, the shooting took place at around 9:30 am this morning Hanoi time. Immediately after the shooting, police were immediately dispatched to the scene. The 34-year-old attacker "was seriously injured in a gunfight with police as he left the nightclub, and later died at the hospital". In addition, a police officer was also injured in the gunfight. The motive for the attack is currently unclear.

The statement also said special forces had been deployed in the city as it was unclear whether the suspect carried out the attack alone or had accomplices.
