Regarding the taxi explosion that killed two people in Quang Ninh yesterday afternoon (October 3), police determined that the passenger was a wanted person who committed suicide with a homemade mine.

The police have initially investigated to clarify the identity of the second victim in the taxi explosion yesterday afternoon on Tran Phu Street, Cam Trung Ward, Cam Pha City, a man named Thanh, living in Cam Thach Ward.

The source said that during the process of verifying and collecting documents, the police initially determined that this person committed suicide with a homemade mine.

Authorities examine the scene

Thanh has a criminal record and is currently wanted. Last night, investigators discovered Thanh's suicide note at his home. The police also discovered and seized explosive wire at Thanh's home.

According to the initial investigation of the police agency, at 12:20 noon yesterday, the Hoang Minh taxi company's switchboard received a phone call from a customer requesting a pick-up at Le Thanh Nghi street, section of group 7, Hoang Thach area, Cam Thach ward, Cam Pha city.

At around 12:24, driver Dang Van Trung reported that he had picked up a passenger. About 8 minutes later, a horrific explosion occurred, killing the driver and passenger on the spot.

Police protect the scene

“The incident happened at noon, there were few people on the road so not many people were injured. If it had happened during school hours, it would have been extremely dangerous and many others would have been injured,” many people said fearfully.

Taxi driver's colleagues were shocked.

Speaking to reporters last night, Mr. Bui Dang Trieu, Deputy Chief of Office of Cam Pha City People's Committee, said: The taxi driver was Mr. Dang Van Trung, 29 years old, residing in group 83, Cam Thach ward - the same ward as Thanh.

A representative of Hoang Minh company said: Mr. Trung has worked for 2 years and is a very experienced driver.

Mr. Trung is described by his friends and colleagues as easy-going, cheerful and helpful. His sudden accident left many people shocked and saddened.

Before the accident, Mr. Trung still went to work normally and did not show any strange signs.

Yesterday afternoon, the company had a working session with the investigation agency regarding the above incident.
