Scorpion venom treats 5 types of cancer
Cuban scientists announced a drug extracted from scorpion venom that can cure cancer at a national symposium held on December 16.

The symposium called "Serving Life", which took place at the Camilo Cienfuegos Genera Hotel, downtown Sancti Spiritus, presented scientific research on scorpion venom and a new drug called Vidatox 30 CH.
A new drug refined from blue scorpion venom in western Cuba could be used to treat cancers such as liver, breast, brain, prostate and lung cancer.
Vidatox, produced by the Cuban pharmaceutical group Labiofam, can increase the survival rate of cancer patients, prevent the spread of cancer cells and improve the patient's health.
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Cuba. According to official figures, about 18,000 Cubans die from cancer each year.
Therefore, Cuba has also launched 4 types of vaccines approved by the Cuban Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) to the market of 26 countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa. The vaccines aim to minimize the harmful effects of radiation and chemotherapy, and are "special drugs" to fight tumors.
