(Baonghean)GIn mid-June 2012, at the Provincial People's Court, the trial of defendant Le Hai Th for kidnapping to appropriate property attracted the attention of many people in Vinh Tan ward and traders at Vinh market (Vinh city). The victim in this trial that attracted their attention and sympathy was Ms. Nguyen Thi H - mother of Vu Cong Ng…

Ms. H also used to have a family in Vinh Tan ward (Vinh city). The couple were freelance workers, the husband was a motorbike taxi driver and the wife sold pork. Always worried about having a son to support the family for generations, when Ng was born, the whole family devoted all their efforts to taking care of the "precious son"... The family only had enough to eat, but from a young age, whatever Ng asked for, the whole family tried to meet his needs. While in middle school, he was very rebellious... His academic results were always at the bottom of the class, but his mischievous behavior was famous throughout the school.

Ms. H works hard every day while her son plays around and spends money like a "rich man". Her husband, who used to worry and save money with her to take care of their child, but somehow, he left all the big and small things in the house to her. At the end of 2009, because he fell in love with a girl who worked as a hairdresser and shampooer, her husband left his wife and children to follow his lover.

Since his father left home, Ng has become even more mischievous. He goes to school every day, but only during the homeroom teacher's class and roll call. His classmates and teachers are "afraid" of him, so they don't pay attention. Around the school, internet cafes, billiards shops, coffee shops, gambling dens, and gambling dens all know Ng well...
With debts piling up, once he owed 3 million VND for billiards, he even took the creditor to the market where his mother was selling goods to collect the money. His mother had to borrow money from a merchant to give him… Unable to bear everyone's unpleasant looks at her rebellious son, she gave him the money before he could hold it, a heart attack broke out, and she collapsed on the spot. While everyone was rushing to take care of him and treat him, he took the money and calmly walked away under the indignant eyes of the people around.

Ng, a gambling addict, Le Hai Th, was a former playboy friend of Ng. After dropping out of school, he opened a pawnshop on Tran Hung Dao Street, Vinh City. Although he knew Ng had no assets to pawn, he knew that his mother always paid his debts, so Th let Ng owe an amount of up to nearly 300 million VND. However, this time, because the amount of money was too large, many times he came back to ask for it, but where did Ng's mother get that amount of money from? So Ng kept avoiding Th. Angry, Th invited a friend to intercept him on the way and forced Ng to call his mother to write a debt note forcing her to pay him. While waiting for Ng's mother, Th kept Ng hostage for more than a day. Then, Th called Ng's mother and threatened: "If you don't come to see us to pay your debt, go to Cua Tien River and pick up your child's body." Seeing that the threat was not enough, Th added, "In Hung Nguyen, there was someone who only owed 20 million VND but had to go to Lam River to pick up his child's body...".

Receiving Th's phone call, Ms. H fainted. After regaining consciousness, she asked her sister to take her to meet Th at a coffee shop to write a debt note for her son. Ms. H asked Th to take her newly purchased unregistered motorbike to mortgage for 50 million VND. Th agreed to accept the motorbike. However, because the debt was over 300 million VND, if she did not mortgage or sell the house, she would not be able to pay. With the encouragement of relatives and friends, she reported to the police and everything led to today's court session.

In court, Ms. H sat thin in the victim's row. Next to her was Ng, tall and thin, with spiky, dyed reddish-brown hair and patched, cowboy-style jeans with torn knees.

The judge allowed Ms. H to sit down and answer questions. The amount of 40 million VND was borrowed by Ng in cash to pay for other expenses that Th agreed to lend. Ng admitted in court, and Ms. H agreed to pay. For the crime of detaining Ng for the purpose of appropriating property, Th must serve a 5-year prison sentence.

The trial ended, many people ran to support Ms. H, helping her to the car, while Ng put two fingers to his mouth and made a shrill sound. A moment later, his friend rode a bike with many strange drawings towards him. He jumped on the bike, turned around, raised his hand: Goodbye, then both of them rushed out onto the street...
