As the income from raising buffaloes and cows is high, right from the beginning of this year's cold season, people in Yen Son commune - Do Luong have paid attention to investing in building solid, windproof barns in winter to keep buffaloes and cows and store enough dry food in reserve.

To keep cattle safe, families clean and dry their barns and light fires to keep them warm. From the beginning of winter, they reinforce their barns, cover them against drafts, and plant 3 acres of winter corn to provide both food for livestock and stalks for cattle to eat. Some families also light fires to keep their cattle warm.

As for Mrs. Thai Thi Ky's family in Hoa Son commune, to protect her cattle from the cold, her family prepared food for the cattle right after the harvest. They made hay, planted grass, and planted corn and sweet potatoes to have both dry and fresh food.

In Do Luong, the communes of Yen Son, Hoa Son, Thuan Son, Trung Son, Trang Son, and Luu Son have large numbers of buffaloes and cows. The total herd of buffaloes and cows in the district is over 40,000. The total herd of breeding cows alone is 22,000, of which crossbred cows account for 85%.
