Fishermen ready for the first sea trip of the year
In the first days of the new year, although the weather at sea is not very favorable, fishermen at fishing ports in the province are present to prepare for the first fishing trip of the year. Fishermen said that although the last fishing trip of the year did not bring much profit, every boat brought back a lot of seafood. The beginning of the new year is also the time to rest, so fishermen focus on repairing fishing gear, checking vehicles, machinery... and transporting all supplies onto the boat. When the weather is favorable, they go out to sea.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Dong - manager of Lach Quen Fishing Port (Quynh Luu) said that because the price of oil is high, fishermen are waiting for the most favorable weather to go out to sea to fish, avoiding the situation of having to return home during the monsoon season, which would be a waste of fuel, because the catch is not much. Therefore, in the first days of the new year, people are not in a hurry to go out to sea, but take the opportunity to carefully repair fishing gear and vehicles, because every time they go out to sea, it is a victory.
For Dien Chau fishermen, most of whom fish close to shore, the first days of the new year are still at sea. Therefore, at Lach Van Fishing Port (Dien Chau), there are still bustling boats returning to port and buying and selling seafood. Fishermen said that they should be resting on New Year's Day, but because of their livelihood, they stay at sea to earn more income.
An old fisherman named Buong in Dien Ngoc commune confided: ForfishermanWe only have a long break during Tet, while on New Year's Day and other holidays we still go to sea as usual. Fishing time is short in the coastal waters, so the seafood harvest is not large. Roughly, this first trip of the year, the old man's boat caught more than 100 kilograms of various types of seafood, including valuable items such as mantis shrimp, squid, and crab, worth more than 5 million VND.

According to Mr. Ngo Xuan Thuy - Manager of Lach Van fishing port, on the first day of the new year 2023, Dien Chau fishermen still stick to the sea. Because they fish close to shore, they only go back and forth during the day, the seafood they catch is not large, but each boat earns from 100 to 200 kg of various types of seafood. From 10 o'clock, fishing boats start returning to port, the bustling seafood trading scene only lasts for 2 hours.
According to the Department of Fisheries, in 2022, the estimated marine catch output is 193,885.3 tons, equal to 106.53% of the annual plan. This result is thanks to the fishermen overcoming difficulties and persevering at sea. This is also the motivation for fishermen in the province to continue to promote their experience and creativity in exploitation in 2023, and at the same time invest in installing more modern equipment on fishing vessels to bring higher efficiency.
Entering 2023, agricultural production will face many difficulties due to the impact of natural disasters and complicated epidemics on crops and livestock. However, with the active participation of the leadership and support of all levels and sectors, along with the spirit of overcoming difficulties and efforts to adapt to the new situation of the people, the determination to start production right from the beginning of the year will be the driving force to help agricultural production complete the set goals, making an important contribution to the overall socio-economic development of the province./.
