Nghe An farmers apply tray sowing and machine transplanting to save costs
(Baonghean.vn) - In Yen Thanh district (Nghe An), many localities are applying tray sowing and machine transplanting in the 2019 spring crop. This is a new technique to reduce time, costs and effort for farmers.
According to the crop calendar, Mr. Nguyen Tien Luc and farmers in Tho Thanh commune started going to the fields to sow the 2019 spring crop.
According to Mr. Luc, in previous years, with an area of more than 5 sao of public land contracted in the Con Dat area, he had to hire people to plant rice for 4-5 days, costing about 1.5 million VND. This year, with the service of sowing rice in trays and planting by machine, for the same area, he only needed to hire people to plant rice for nearly 2 hours, reducing the cost per sao by nearly 200,000 VND.

In previous years, rice production in Tho Thanh commune was mainly done using traditional methods, with small production scale, little concentration in each region, and not bold in applying scientific and technological advances in production... For more than a year now, the commune has applied the method of sowing rice in trays and transplanting by machine, with an area of 30 hectares, saving the people tens of millions of dong.
Tray seedlings grow stronger than regular seedlings, overcoming the limitations of outdoor seedlings such as dependence on weather conditions, and avoiding root breakage when transplanting seedlings into the field.
Compared with the traditional method, sowing rice seedlings in trays reduces the amount of seeds per sao by half.

The appearance of rice transplanters on Yen Thanh fields opens a new direction for the people.
According to data from the district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, this spring, farmers in Yen Thanh district applied tray sowing and machine planting on an area of about 100 hectares, concentrated in the northern communes of the district.
From these effective machine planting models, in the coming years they will be replicated in the district so that farmers can benefit, speeding up the progress of bringing industrialization and modernization to rural agriculture./.
