Nghe An farmers harvest vegetables to escape storm No. 10
(Baonghean.vn) - To avoid storm No. 10, people in Quynh Luu district urgently harvested vegetables to reduce damage caused by the storm.
After hearing the forecast that storm No. 10 would make landfall in Nghe An, on September 13, Mr. Le Van Minh in hamlet 3, Quynh Luong commune mobilized workers to go to the fields to harvest more than 1 sao of green onions.
He said that although there are still about 5 days left until the onion harvest, but to avoid the storm, the family focused on human resources to "run the storm". At this time, because it is not the main crop, the yield of green onions is about 1 ton/sao, but now the price is good.
"We have to harvest the scallions early to avoid the storm. If we leave them on the right day, the risk of flooding and breakage is very high, and we will have no income. Now we harvest early but still earn nearly 15 million VND in profit," said Mr. Minh.

According to Ms. Ho Thi Huong in Quynh Minh commune, storm No. 10 landed right when vegetables were at their peak price, if not harvested early, it would cause a lot of economic damage. Currently, the price of green onions purchased at the field is 18,000 VND/kg; Dalat lettuce 10,000 VND/kg, mustard greens 5,000 VND/kg..., of which green onions are much higher in price compared to last year, each kg increased by 10,000 VND/kg. On average, 1 sao of green onions harvested and sold at this time, people earn a profit of 15 - 17 million VND/sao.
“If the storm hits and causes heavy rain and flooding, all the vegetables will be damaged and people will have no income. Therefore, my family is urgently harvesting Da Lat lettuce to sell in time before the storm hits,” said Ms. Huong.

According to forecasts, storm No. 10 will make landfall in Nghe An on September 15, causing widespread heavy rain. In order to avoid economic losses, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Quynh Luu district has requested communes in coastal areas to advise people to quickly go to the fields to harvest vegetables, not to plant vegetables before and after the storm, and to focus on dredging canals and inner fields to avoid flooding when heavy rain lasts for a long time./.
