At the beginning of December, chrysanthemum gardens in Dien Chau, Quynh Luu, Yen Thanh... have grown well, most of them are in the bud stage, some beds were planted early, floristare mobilizing human resources to net buds for sale on the occasion of the full moon of December. According to the people, this year the weather is quite favorable, so chrysanthemums grow quickly, but they are worried because the market will have difficulty consuming, if the epidemic is complicated in the days before Tet. Therefore, many households plant in separate crops to meet the market demand before, during and after Tet.
Mr. Tuyet and his wife, the owners of the chrysanthemum garden in Dien Ky commune (Dien Chau), said that like previous years, this year they still planted about 150,000 plants.Chrysanthemumall kinds. However, this year due to the high price of fertilizer, the investment cost is much higher than previous years. The cost to grow 150,000 chrysanthemums, including seeds, fertilizer, electricity... is more than 120 million VND, not to mention the nets, wires, and light bulbs invested in last year, which are now reused. With such a large investment, it is inevitable to worry about the unpredictable consumption market situation.

"In anticipation of the difficult market before Tet, the family proactively planted flowers at different times, of which the number of flowers sold during Tet accounted for about 50%, the remaining 50% were sold before and after Tet. In previous years, the wholesale price at the garden was nearly 3,000 VND/tree, which was profitable, but this year if sold at that price, it would be a loss, because the investment cost is higher," Ms. Tuyet shared.

Despite concerns that the flower market will have difficulty selling flowers this Tet due to the epidemic, flower growers are still actively taking care of their flowers to make them more beautiful. Photo: Xuan Hoang |
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loi, owner of the chrysanthemum garden, said that it is predicted that this year's Tet holiday will be more difficult to sell due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. Therefore, her family will plant in different seasons, focusing on caring for them to sell on different occasions before, during and after Tet.
"The entire flower garden has about 14,000 chrysanthemums. Recently, the family sold about 3,000 plants to serve the market on the first day of the twelfth lunar month, at a good price of 4,000 VND/plant. On the 15th day of the twelfth lunar month, it is expected to sell 3,000 plants; on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, it is expected to sell 5,000 plants, and the remaining 3,000 plants will be sold on the 15th day of the first lunar month. If we can adjust like this, it will reduce market pressure at the end of the year. Currently, in the province and other provinces, the Covid-19 epidemic is complicated in some localities. I am only worried that if the epidemic continues to be complicated in the days before Tet, chrysanthemums will face difficulties in consumption," Ms. Loi shared.
