Young farmer creates remote pesticide sprayer
Born into a farming family, after getting married, Mr. Tran Thanh Tuan, in Trung Nhi hamlet, Vinh Trach commune, Thoai Son district, An Giang, continued his family's career of cultivating 1 hectare of rice field.
Realizing the hardship of farmers and the danger to health when spraying pesticides in the fields, in 2010, Mr. Tuan began researching and inventing a remote-controlled pesticide sprayer.
After three failures, in 2013, Mr. Tuan successfully created and launched perfect remote-controlled pesticide sprayers.
The remote-controlled pesticide sprayer manufactured by Mr. Tuan has the advantage of being compact, weighing about 130kg, moving by crawlers, with a 120-liter pesticide tank, and can spray at a distance of 10m. When the machine moves, it does not step on rice, does not sink in soft mud, and has a very high spraying capacity of 10ha/day, equivalent to six manual sprayers, suitable for large fields.
In addition to remote control of spraying, farmers can sit on the machine to spray - this advantage helps farmers avoid direct contact with pesticides when spraying.
Mr. Tran Thanh Tuan said that he is currently producing two product lines with selling prices of 29 million VND and 32 million VND/machine respectively. After successful production, Mr. Tuan was invited by the Ministry of Science and Technology to participate in the technical innovation competition in Ho Chi Minh City and won an encouragement prize.
In November 2013, Mr. Tuan attended the Mekong Delta Economic Cooperation Forum (MDEC) in Vinh Long to introduce his products. On this occasion, he received a contract to supply two machines to Laos.
Mr. Nguyen Huu An, Head of the An Giang Plant Protection Department, said that as a purely agricultural province and the country's rice granary, in recent years An Giang has continuously increased intensive cultivation by 3 crops on 600,000 hectares of rice production per year.
Although many farming techniques of "3 reductions, 3 increases," "1 must, 5 reductions" have been applied, due to complicated weather conditions in recent years, the impact of climate change, and the emergence of many pests and diseases, many pesticides have had to be used in the fields.
On average, An Giang farmers use over 7,600 tons of pesticides each year; there are over 1,000 people who spray pesticides for hire without labor protection, without spraying according to technical procedures, and have to work in hot environments. Among them, many spray up to 6-7 bottles/day, double the prescribed level, which can easily affect their health.
Therefore, the remote-controlled sprayer manufactured by Mr. Tran Thanh Tuan will help users stay safe and no longer suffer from the current pressure of labor shortage in spraying./.
