(Baonghean.vn) - At this time, many types of agricultural products from Laos are massively imported into Vietnam by individuals and organizations through Nam Can border gate.
Although the Government has now issuedResolution 128Temporary regulations "Safely and flexibly adapting to and effectively controlling the Covid-19 epidemic", however, due to the complicated developments of the epidemic both domestically and in countries in the region, import-export and immigration activities at border gates have become quiet.

However, at present, import and export activities at Nam Can International Border Gate, Ky Son border district are quite busy. According to our records, the import and export goods through this border gate are mainly agricultural products.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh, residing in Kim Son town (Que Phong), followed National Highway 16 to Nam Can International Border Gate to receive goods and said: In recent months, there have been a lot of agricultural products coming from Laos. Due to regulations on epidemic prevention and safety, trucks carrying goods from Laos are only allowed to stop to transfer goods at the border gate, so Ms. Thanh had to follow the truck here to receive the goods, each trip only picking up about 2 tons of goods, then returning to wholesale to small traders along the route.National Highway 48.

Due to epidemic prevention regulations, vehicles from Laos to Vietnam and vice versa must stop to unload and change drivers at the border gate, so traders have to bring their vehicles to the border gate to pick up goods. Due to increased transportation costs, the prices of Lao agricultural products sold in the markets have also increased. Photo: Tien Dong |
According to Ms. Thanh, this is the season of taro, squash, and ginger in Laos, so there are a lot of these items coming in. Due to regulations on epidemic prevention, after placing the order and confirming the time the truck arrives at the border gate, Ms. Thanh also traveled 200km along National Highway 16 to the border gate to receive the goods. Because of having to transfer goods, change vehicles, and change drivers, the cost of the items also increased.
Surveys at markets in the Ky Son area show that currently, items such as ginger, squash, and Lao taro are priced between 15,000 and 30,000 VND, depending on the type. According to assessments, this is a fairly high price because the cost of transporting goods during the epidemic season has increased.
