Long-time teammates to equip themselves with knowledge. The unit commander assigned to be in charge of 3 residential areas with 657 households and nearly 3,000 people. This is a complex area in terms of security and order with more than 70 subjects with criminal records, of which 30 are under management. However, Thao still does not mind the difficulties, regularly stays close to the area, visits, encourages, grasps the circumstances and thoughts of each person and each household to advise the unit commander, the Party Committee, and the local government to have measures to support and help spiritually and materially, promptly resolving the legitimate requests and aspirations of the people.

Thao boldly discussed with the executive committees of the blocks and hamlets to grasp the activities of each subject, find ways to meet and prevent illegal acts, and educate those who have made mistakes to strive to become useful people for their families and society... Recently, at 2:00 p.m. on September 30, 2013, while Thao was on dutyAt the Cultural House of Block 4, Cua Nam Ward, a celebration of the International Day of the Elderly was held. While the meeting was in progress, Nguyen The Thien, born in 1976 with many criminal records, entered the hall, spoke and acted in an uncivilized manner, kicked over the coffee table, threw bricks and stones, broke the window, then ran in and dragged Mr. Truong Van Long, the block leader who was chairing the meeting, out onto the street to assault him. At that moment, Thao was present in time to remind, warn and ask Thien to stop his behavior immediately. Although he knew Thao was a local police officer, Thien still did not comply but cursed and used an iron hammer to hit Thao. Then, Thien rushed in, grabbed Thao's hair, punched and kicked her repeatedly in the face and body, seriously injuring her. The ward police force arrived in time to arrest Nguyen The Thien and took Thao to the hospital for treatment.

With the above actions, Thao was praised by the officers and people of Cua Nam ward. Implementing the direction of the Nghe An Police leaders, on October 4, 2013, Vinh City Police launched a campaign for all officers and soldiers to learn and follow the example of dedication and bravery of Lieutenant Tran Thi Phuong Thao.
