China will launch the Shenzhou 9 spacecraft in mid-June and send its first manned mission into space, a spokesman for the Chinese space program said.
Previously, the Tiangong 1 module had been operating in space for 255 days and was waiting to dock with Shenzhou 9. Shenzhou 9 will carry 3 astronauts into space, including the first female astronaut in Chinese history to enter space.
In terms of health and skills, these two female astronauts are equally matched. Therefore, the space agency must try to choose one of them to be the first female astronaut to go into space to complete the docking mission.
One of these two female astronauts was sent to space.
Previously, in November 2011, China successfully launched the unmanned spacecraft Shenzhou 8 into orbit. Shortly after, Shenzhou 8 successfully docked with Tiangong 1. China will launch the manned spacecraft Shenzhou 9 to perform a mission to approach and dock with the space experiment module Tiangong 1. According to a spokesperson for China's manned space program, this docking mission in space will be carried out in a manual operation by astronauts. This is another opportunity for China to test its docking technology.
The three-member crew of Shenzhou 9 will then move to the Tiangong-1 space station to live and work there, conducting space science experiments. The Tiangong-1 space station was launched into orbit on September 29, 2011 and will operate for a long time, taking over the docking missions of Shenzhou 9 and Shenzhou 10 after completing China's first docking mission in space with Shenzhou 8 in November 2011.
