(Baonghean.vn) - Confidence and intelligence are the first impressions of everyone when meeting Nguyen Huyen Linh - the female student who just won first prize in the "Reading Culture Ambassador" Contest in Nghe An in 2023. This is the third time participating in the contest and also the third time she has stepped up to the podium to receive the award.

Happy, sad with the pages of books

Nguyen Huyen Linh (born in 2008), born and raised in Bai Son commune (Do Luong), is a former student of Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School, a school famous for its achievements and teaching quality. Currently, Huyen Linh is a 10th grade student in C1, specializing in Literature, Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted.

As a child, Huyen Linh was a girl who loved cartoons with princesses, superheroes and liked to play mischievous games with her friends, almost without the shadow of books. It was not until grade 7, when she joined the Literature team of Ly Nhat Quang Secondary School, that Huyen Linh began to look for reference books and literature books.

Nguyen Huyen Linh shared: “Since I became interested and passionate about books, I have come across many good books and interesting stories. This has helped me to have a refined soul, broaden my vision and understand life better. Since then, I have truly lived with books, shared joys and sorrows with books, books have become close friends on the path of learning.”

Also in grade 7, Huyen Linh participated in the "Reading Culture Ambassador" Contest and won second prize at the provincial level and third prize at the national level. In grade 8, she continued to compete and this Luong girl was awarded the topic prize for the best reading culture development experience initiative. And in grade 9, Huyen Linh won first prize in the "Reading Culture Ambassador" Contest Nghe An 2023.

In the first prize winning entry, Huyen Linh introduced the book “My Sweet Orange Tree” by writer José Mauro de Vasconcelos (Brazil). This is an autobiography depicting the author’s life and childhood memories with shocks. With a talented pen, the writer has created an impressive literary work with a blend of top-notch character psychology, although painful and bitter, it is still filled with love and warmth.

According to the Luong student, the book brought her back to her childhood, led her to remote regions of the world, discovered many new things, taught her how to love properly and dream properly.

“For me, "My Sweet Orange Tree" is my favorite book. From a shy, naive girl standing on the threshold of adulthood, now the book has turned me into a completely different person. More delicate, more sensitive, listening, understanding, giving more love, cherishing the present life and burning with all my heart for unfinished dreams and ambitions", Huyen Linh confided.

Inspire a love of reading

As a reading culture ambassador, Nguyen Huyen Linh is determined to encourage and motivate people to read more books, contributing to the development of reading culture in the community and society. Currently, she has built 3 major plans: propaganda, building facilities and reviewing (introducing) books.

According to Huyen Linh, the reason she chose this plan and arranged it in this order is because she thinks that when people have awareness and a passion for reading, they will look for books to read. However, some people will not be able to afford to buy books, so there needs to be a plan to build facilities to bring books closer to everyone.

But that is not enough, because we must make sure that books are actually read, instead of lying on the shelves. The book review plan will help people choose quality books, avoiding the phenomenon of buying books with negative, boring content that cause false perceptions in the community.

Regarding propaganda, Huyen Linh divided it into two areas, the first is schools, taking advantage of the role of the young propaganda team in the school as well as the website to build newsletters, read daily radio broadcasts or update information, introduce books. At the local level, it is proposed to use loudspeakers of hamlets and communes, integrate propaganda work in hamlet meetings to change people's awareness of reading books.

In addition, I propose that the local government add reading culture criteria to reward the title of "Cultural Family" every year; suggest that singers and artists can adapt content from books and stories into richer and more diverse forms such as paintings, photos, and songs.

“After the contest, I received more than the effort I put in. The contest gave me moments to immerse myself in a sea of books, to join in the development of reading culture, to raise my voice to everyone around me to inspire a passion for reading, so that my close friends - the pages of books - will never have to lie under the dust of time.”
