Female BMW driver who caused the accident has been arrested
Ms. Nga drove a BMW while drunk and caused a particularly serious accident, so she must be prosecuted.
On October 24, Binh Thanh District Police (HCMC) issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga to investigate her behavior.Violation of regulations on road traffic participationaccording to Clause 2, Article 260 of the 2015 Penal Code with a penalty of 3-10 years in prison.
The 46-year-old woman was the BMW driver who caused an accident at Hang Xanh intersection three nights ago, killing one person and injuring many others.

According to the investigation on the night of October 21, the BMW driven by Ms. Nga crashed into 5 motorbikes stopped at a red light in front. The car dragged the 38-year-old woman quite a distance, then crashed into a taxi before stopping. The victim died on the spot.
The accident also injured five others, including two young men who are in critical condition due to traumatic brain and cervical spine injuries. Immediately after, the police detained this woman with a very high alcohol concentration - 0.94 mg/l of breath.
Working with the police, Ms. Nga admitted that she had drunk beer and wine that night at her restaurant on Pasteur Street (District 3). She had a driver every day, but he was off that day, so after the party, she drove her BMW home in District 12.

The restaurant owner confirmed that she was very sober when she got in the car. It was past 11 p.m., the car was traveling on Dien Bien Phu Street - from the center of Saigon to Binh Thanh District. Nearing the Hang Xanh intersection, seeing the red light ahead, Ms. Nga stepped on the brake. However, when she moved her foot from the accelerator to the brake, the back strap of her high heel got caught.
In a panic, Mrs. Nga pulled her foot up and then pressed it down, accidentally hitting the gas pedal, causing the car to rush forward and hit a series of cars.
Article 260, Clause 2 of the 2015 Penal Code stipulates: committing a crime in one of the following cases shall be punished with imprisonment from 3 to 10 years: a) No driving license as prescribed. b) In a state of using alcohol or beer with blood or breath alcohol concentration exceeding the prescribed level or using drugs or other strong stimulants prohibited by law. c) Causing an accident and then fleeing to avoid responsibility or intentionally failing to help the victim. d) Failure to comply with the commands of traffic controllers or guides. d) Killed 2 people. e) Causing injury or damage to the health of 2 people with a bodily injury rate of 61% or more for each person. g) Causing injury or damage to the health of 3 or more people, with the total body injury rate of these people from 122% to 200%. h) Causing property damage from VND 500,000,000 to under VND 1,500,000,000. |
