Female treasurer embezzled more than 600 million and staged a fake crime scene, sentenced to 12 years in prison
After embezzling more than 600 million VND, a janitor in Gia Lai asked an acquaintance to set up a fake crime scene. These two subjects have just been sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison by the Gia Lai Provincial People's Court.
On September 16, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Court opened the first instance trial of defendant Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram (29 years old, residing in My Thach 1 village, Chu Se town, Chu Se district, Gia Lai province; former janitor, clerk and treasurer of Tran Cao Van High School, Chu Se district) for the crime of "Embezzlement of property" and Nguyen Xuan Tinh (31 years old, residing in the same village) for the crime of "Concealing criminals".

According to the indictment, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram, a janitor, clerk and treasurer at Tran Cao Van High School (Chu Se District) was assigned to collect, spend and manage tuition fees; contributions from parents and two student support funds.
From September 2022 to May 2023, Tram did not properly perform her assigned tasks, embezzling a total of more than 600 million VND from Tran Cao Van High School for personal spending and virtual currency investment.
Because she was unable to return the property, Tram asked Nguyen Xuan Tinh (temporarily residing in Ho Chi Minh City) to break the locks of Tram's office and cabinet at Tran Cao Van High School to create a fake scene of theft.
At around 11:30 a.m. on May 22, 2023, after buying 3 new locks and exchanging them for the old ones from Tram, Tinh took them to break and climbed into the school to replace them to create a fake scene. After finishing, Tinh took a bus to Ho Chi Minh City and threw away the newly purchased locks along the way.
That same afternoon, Tram reported to the school's Board of Directors that a thief had broken into her office and stolen all the money the homeroom teacher had paid and two student support payments.
However, at around 8pm the same day, Tram went to the Investigation Police Agency of Chu Se District Police to surrender and confess her crime. The next morning, Tinh also went to the district police to present himself.

At the trial, both defendants admitted their crimes. Based on the case file, the interrogation and debate process, after considering aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Court sentenced defendant Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram to 12 years in prison for "Embezzlement of property" and Nguyen Xuan Tinh to 1 year in prison for "Concealing a crime".
