(Baonghean) - The responsibility placed on the shoulders of fathers and mothers can be summed up in two words: Raising and teaching. Parenting is first and foremost a labor of the soul, not manual labor, a labor of the mind, not physical labor. Unfortunately, some of us narrow it down to manual labor - feeding, clothing, bathing every day... and leave education to God: "Parents give birth to children, God gives them their personalities"; leave it to the school "everything depends on the teacher". And so, those parents have deprived themselves of the most interesting, complicated and difficult, but also the richest part of being a parent.

Parents give birth to children, if there is such a thing as “nature is born in heaven”, then that birth is only within a certain limit. After that birth, whether the “nature” grows or disappears is certainly not up to heaven. “Never forget: Education is the first issue. Be careful! It is an art” (Obradoxov). There are many good sayings in folklore: “Teach your children from an early age”, “If a child does not hold on to something, even a branch will break”. I know of families who teach their children right from the moment they eat their first bite, say their first words, take their first steps… There are fathers who not only take their children to school but also study with them, forgetting about cassettes and television. There are mothers who maintain regular contact with the school, with their teachers.

Every time I met, I asked the teachers to be stricter and to give the family more specific educational methods. When I visited an artist's family, I saw everything displayed before me was very beautiful: clogs and sandals on the steps were arranged in pairs, on the coffee table (which was also a desk) there were pure white cups on a tray, reference books, whether folded or opened, were very square, flat, and neatly stacked in the corner of the table. In the 18 square meters of the artist's family, I heard everyone talking and speaking very gently and very cutely. Ms. My Dung - an actress of the Central Drama Troupe said: "It's all because of my grandfather. He calls his children by their names. He doesn't want people to use the words "you", "I"...

He always reminded his children and grandchildren: “If the mat is not spread out properly, do not sit on it. If the meat is not cut squarely, do not pick it up.” A bicycle repairman has 4 sons who are active officers and 2 daughters who are elementary school teachers. When asked “what do you care about when teaching your children?”, he thought for a moment before answering: “When my children were at the age of playing and being naughty, I taught them to eat, to speak, to wrap, to open…”, meaning everything had to be taught. When they were a little older, when they were at school age, our family taught them to care about others. Naturally, as I love my biological parents, I also love those who taught me that love. Caring about others is truly the root of all behavior. It arises and grows in the deepest part of the human soul. Caring about others is not only a quality in life but also the foundation for all humanity.

Over the years, children have been a great joy, but also a great worry for many families. The phenomenon of children disobeying their parents, being disrespectful to teachers, and making trouble on the streets, disregarding the law, is increasing. The cause of these phenomena is the negative impact of a "commercialized" society, but to what extent does it affect them? We need to be aware of this. Living together in the same ward, the same group, studying in the same school, the same class, one student is spoiled, the other is well-behaved. That is probably due to the strong family discipline. The good education of parents towards their children. It is true, "There are no bad children. There are only uneducated children". That is a famous saying. The family is the most familiar and intimate environment for each person. Before going out, going to school, who do children live with? Parents. After school, who do children go home with? Parents. After a day of work, who do children go home with? Family. Every human character must begin from the cradle, from within the parents, under the family roof.

Between raising and teaching, teaching must be recognized as many times more difficult. Teaching is a lot of hard work, meticulousness, and perseverance. I have a friend whose daughter is married to a Japanese man. He said: His daughter had to learn how to be a mother before giving birth. Let's teach by setting an example rather than preaching, and replace scolding with words of encouragement and guidance.
