Raising Egyptian chickens for high efficiency
(Baonghean.vn)Yen Thanh Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Station has implemented the model of "Breeding chickens for breeding - Biosecurity" for poor households in Quang Thanh commune, to help farmers master scientific and technical knowledge on poultry breeding and disease prevention, and change the method from traditional breeding to industrial and semi-industrial breeding.
With a scale of 1,000 Egyptian egg-laying chickens, 20 households participated, each household had an average of 50 chickens, raising time was 15 months. Households participating in the model were supported with: 100% of chicken breed money, mixed feed, chemicals to disinfect the barn, vaccines to prevent chicken diseases, technical training, and visits to the barn workshop. On July 23, 2010, chicken breeds were handed over to households participating in the model.

After 15 months of raising, the results were: The chickens grew and developed well, the survival rate reached 81%, of which the hen rate accounted for 90%, the average weight was 1.7kg/chicken, the egg-laying rate reached 90-97%, the average productivity reached 20/egg/hen/month, the eggs were pinkish-white, the weight was 35-37g/egg, the rate of embryonated eggs reached 95%, no disease occurred. Mrs. Bui Thi Than, a household participating in the model in Tan Son hamlet, shared: My family has eggs to sell every day at 2,700 VND/egg for meat eggs and 3,000 VND/egg for breeding eggs, every month we have a good additional income to contribute to the children's education, currently the family has expanded the total flock to nearly 100 laying hens.
Recently, the KNKN Station held a conference to summarize and evaluate the results of the model implementation, with the participation of representatives of the Project Management Board. In fact, the biosafety chicken breeding model has given encouraging results, poor households have more jobs and a relatively stable income, contributing to improving their daily lives. Households participating in the model are very excited about the new livestock, suitable for the natural conditions and climate in the area.
