Raising pigs using biological bedding in Cua Lo
(Baonghean.vn) - Raising pigs for meat according to VietGap standards using biological bedding, applied for the first time in Cua Lo town, has brought outstanding results to farmers, especially without causing environmental pollution.
This is a model of transferring scientific and technical advances in pig farming, especially using the microbial product Balasa NO1, made from raw materials: rice husk, sawdust, preparations, corn flour and some other items that have the ability to strongly decompose organic matter, inhibiting harmful and pathogenic microorganisms.
There are 2 households in Cua Lo raising pigs according to this model. They are Mr. Hoang Minh Dong's household (Dong Hai block, Nghi Thu ward) and Dang Thi Tinh's household (block 13, Nghi Huong ward); they started raising pigs in October 2015; each household raises 15 pigs. After the Cua Lo town Agricultural Extension Station transferred the technology, the provincial Agricultural Extension Center supported 100% of pig breeds and 30% of the cost of feed, veterinary medicine, bedding, vaccines, etc.

The thickness of the bio-bedding is 70cm, to destroy manure and deodorize in livestock farming. |
Bio-mats also have the effect of fermenting and decomposing feces and urine, reducing toxic gases and odors in the barn, creating a clean environment, not causing pollution, limiting harmful microorganisms, creating a comfortable living environment for animals, increasing resistance for livestock. This method not only helps farmers save on bathing and flushing the barn, but also reduces the cost of treating some diseases for pigs.
At Mr. Hoang Minh Dong's household model, the barn was invested and built according to standards, including 1/3 of the barn area as a playground and feeding trough for the pigs, and 2/3 of the area as bedding, with a bedding density of 1.2 - 1.5m2/pig, 70cm thick. The "playground" was built 80cm high, a place for the pigs to rest and avoid the heat. Initially, Mr. Minh spread bedding over the entire 16m3 barn, mainly sawdust, rice husks, 30 kg of corn flour and probiotics; every 1 month, he added more sawdust, rice husks and probiotics/time.
Currently, Mr. Dong continues to raise the second batch, the pigs are growing well, expected to raise 2 batches of 30 pigs a year for a net profit of more than 60 million VND/year. Raising pigs according to this model, the pigs grow quickly, on average gaining 20 kg per month, after 4 months of raising, each pig reaches a weight of about 90 kg, the total herd sells 1.2 tons of live pigs, net profit 35 million VND/batch. "Clean" pork is popular with consumers so it is very easy to consume.
Ms. Dang Thi Tinh's household also said that raising pigs according to VietGap standards, not using chemicals or antibiotics in livestock farming, and using agricultural products such as corn, vegetables, and wine lees for feed, the pigs grow quickly, ensuring efficiency, and clean meat is favored by the market.
