Illegal tiger captivity

(Baonghean)At 4:30 a.m. on January 1, 2013, at Phu Vinh hamlet, Do Thanh commune (Yen Thanh), Yen Thanh district police inspected the house of Mr. Le Van Dat (born 1989) and discovered a large tiger being illegally kept in captivity.



The tiger is being kept in captivity at the family of Mr. Le Van Dai, Phu Vinh hamlet, Do Thanh commune (Yen Thanh).

The tiger discovered this time was kept in a level 4 house about 9 square meters wide. According to the homeowner Le Van Dat, the tiger was brought from Laos to Vietnam through illegal trade, and his family bought it from a resident in Dien Thap commune (Dien Chau) in early 2012. When purchased, the tiger cub weighed 1.6 kg. After nearly a year of being kept in captivity, this tiger was nearly 2 meters long, 0.8 meters high, and weighed about 170 kg. After being discovered, the homeowner honestly admitted that he had violated the law on keeping rare wild animals.

This is the third tiger that the people of Do Thanh commune have been illegally raising and confiscating, discovered and seized by the police since October 2012. This tiger is currently being held at the Yen Thanh district police station and will be handed over to the authorities as soon as possible.
