Raising honey bees in Nam Dan earns billions
(Baonghean.vn) - Nam Dan is a district with a relatively large forestry land area of 7,448.3 hectares. Along with the development of the forest economy, many households in communes with forests have developed a movement of beekeeping for honey.
Having been involved in beekeeping for honey for more than 5 years, Mr. Nguyen Van Son, owner of a bee farm in Khe Huong hamlet, Nam Loc commune, Nam Dan district, shared: His family started with 100 hives, then saw the effectiveness and expanded to 500 hives. In addition, he also uses many technical measures to exploit royal jelly, a health care and beauty product for women.
In addition to learning from experience, understanding the rules of bee colony operation, searching for suitable sources of trees and flowers for honey in each stage, he also invested hundreds of millions of dong in renting vehicles and labor to transport migratory bees, so the bees continuously reproduce and develop, providing a fairly stable source of income. The total revenue from the bee farm is approximately 3 billion dong each year, minus expenses, the net profit is more than 1 billion dong.

Currently in Nam Dan area, beekeeping for honey has developed widely, especially in 13 communes with forests, many households have boldly invested in beekeeping for goods on a large scale. The characteristic of bees is that they multiply their colonies, reproduce quickly, and after 2 to 3 months, they have a large number of worker bees. If well cared for, after a year, a colony can split into 5 to 6 colonies.
Mr. Pham Ba Dat - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Nam Dan district said: Up to now, the whole district has expanded nearly 10,000 beehives, most in the communes of Nam Hung, Nam Loc, Nam Thanh, Nam Nghia, Van Dien, Nam Loc. On average, each household raises 15 - 20 beehives, each year collecting from 130-150 liters of honey. Honey, royal jelly, and beeswax products are not only supplied to the domestic market but also exported to markets in Germany, the US, Laos, and Thailand.
In recent years, the beekeeping movement in Nam Dan has developed rapidly, bringing high income, not only helping people to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, but also enhancing people's sense of responsibility for protection and forest fire prevention and control, opening up a path to sustainable enrichment for many localities in Nam Dan.
