Tre Publishing House plays "The Upside Down Game" with pirated books
This morning, April 27, Tre Publishing House held a press conference to launch the “smart stamp” project that will be deployed on all of its publications. In particular, “smart stamps” will also help Tre Publishing House reduce the current problem of pirated books.
“Smart stamps” will be printed on the back cover of all publications of Tre Publishing House. This stamp is like a phone scratch card, each book contains 12 different codes. The operations when using the “smart stamp” are like recharging a phone card. This stamp helps Tre Publishing House and readers who buy books interact with each other as an “added value” between the book printing place and the buyer, instead of the long-standing “relationship” ending after the buyer buys the book.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut, Director of Tre Publishing House, introduces the smart stamp project. |
On the occasion of Tre Publishing House launching “smart stamps”, the novel series Van bai lat ngua by author Nguyen Truong Thien Ly was reprinted into 2 volumes. Van bai lat ngua is the first book series to apply smart stamp printing. When scratching the smart stamp printed on the cover of Van bai lat ngua following the text message syntax, readers will receive 200 e-books from Tre Publishing House and 200 randomly selected readers will receive 200 sets of Van bai lat ngua movie discs distributed by Phuong Nam Film.
Sports & Culture (Vietnam News Agency) asked Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut, Director of Tre Publishing House: "Did Tre Publishing House choose to republish Van bai lat ngua to launch smart stamps with the hidden intention of playing "open cards" with pirated books or not?"
Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut said: “Smart stamps, light paper for printing books and other technical measures that Tre Publishing House has applied are all centered on readers. All utilities are aimed at serving readers better. We republished Van bai lat ngua because of the content value of this book series. Of course, fighting piracy is also part of that idea, but it is not just about smart stamps, because if we can do it, pirates can do it too. Therefore, always innovating to create new things to serve readers is the main thing, and fighting piracy is a long-term matter.”
The book series "The Flip Cards" was chosen to launch the smart stamp. |
Mr. Nguyen Minh Nhut added: “In some countries, to limit piracy, the publishing industry has introduced a “minimum price” policy. That means a book must be sold at a certain minimum price, regardless of how many pages it has and what kind of paper it is printed on. Pirated books survive thanks to their low prices, and when a “minimum price” is applied, piracy is greatly limited.”
There is some interesting information related to the novel Van bai lat ngua. Initially, the film of the same name was adapted from the novel Giua bien truong kiem by writer Tran Bach Dang, telling the story of the life of intelligence officer, hero and martyr Pham Ngoc Thao with the alias Chin T. After completing 8 episodes of Van bai lat ngua, writer Tran Bach Dang switched from film to novel and published Van bai lat ngua for the first time in 1986 under the pen name Nguyen Truong Thien Ly.
