(Baonghean.vn) -Recently, in Yen Thanh district (Nghe An), there have been many cases of telecommunication cable theft, causing disruption of communication due to loss of signal in the area, causing anger among local people. Faced with this situation, Yen Thanh district police have set up a special project to combat it.

From the scene of the telecommunication cable theft, Yen Thanh District Police determined that the subjects took advantage of the darkness, rain and wind to steal the cables and the time of action only lasted about 1 hour. From there, by grasping timely information, closely coordinating with units, and synchronously deploying professional measures, by October 31, 2012, Yen Thanh District Police had clearly identified the perpetrators and urgently arrested 5 subjects including Ha Van Loi (born in 1994), Tran Van Phuc (born in 1992), Thai Huu Han (born in 1992) all residing in Hamlet 9, Xuan Thanh Commune; Tran Phuc Dinh (born in 1992) residing in Hamlet 4, Hung Thanh Commune and Pham Xuan Quy (born in 1990) residing in Hamlet 10, Lang Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District for the act of stealing telecommunication cables.

The subjects in the case

At the police station, the subjects confessed: From the end of September 2012 until now, these 5 subjects and their accomplices have carried out over 5 cases of stealing telecommunication cables in the areas of Xuan Thanh and Hung Thanh communes with hundreds of meters of telecommunication cables, causing hundreds of millions of dong in damage. They burned all the stolen telecommunication cables to get copper and then sold them to scrap purchasing establishments to get money to spend. Yen Thanh district police have seized 37 kg of copper cores, hundreds of meters of cable core sheaths, 1 insulating pliers, 1 wrench and 1 knife and continue to coordinate with the police of neighboring districts to arrest the remaining subjects in the case.

The above incident shows that, to prevent telecommunication cable theft, the authorities need to develop a coordination regulation on ensuring economic security, information and communication security and ensuring infrastructure safety in Postal, Telecommunications and IT activities.

In addition, the police need to quickly complete the records of telecommunication cable theft cases, and bring the criminals to mobile trials for education and deterrence. Local police forces need to make a specific list of scrap buyers in the area, forcing them to sign a commitment not to buy or sell electric wires and electrical equipment of unknown origin... In addition, telecommunications businesses in the area need to coordinate security patrols and install anti-theft alarms to promptly detect theft and ambush and capture the subjects.
