Car brake failure: Can it be prevented?
In addition to regular car maintenance, you can check yourself to see if your car's brake system is working properly. Below are signs that your car's brake system is having problems.
Warning light on
When you start your car, the yellow anti-lock braking system (ABS) light will come on; this is when the electronic system is being tested. If the light stays on for a few seconds and then goes off, the brake system has been tested and there is no problem. If the ABS light is flashing or stays on, you should have it checked by a qualified repair shop.

A flashing ABS light is a sign that your vehicle's braking system needs to be checked. |
There is a feeling of emptiness when braking.
Before starting the engine, press the brake pedal 3-5 times; if the brake pedal hardens and stops, the brake booster is still working properly. When the engine starts, the brake pedal should slowly lower to its original position and not stay still.
On the contrary, if before starting the engine, you feel the brake pedal is weak and can be pressed comfortably, it means the brake assist system has lost its effectiveness.
There is a heavy feeling when braking.
The brakes are assisted by a vacuum hydraulic system, so they only work properly and safely when the engine is running. When you step on the brake, you can hear a small continuous noise, feel the brake pedal rebound, and vibrate the pedal (this is when the ABS system is working); these signals are completely normal, proving that you have stepped on the brake to the maximum limit of the brake pad's grip.
When you press the brake pedal and feel heavy, it is likely that the brake vacuum booster is broken, or the oil pipe is clogged, etc. At this time, you should not risk continuing to use the car. It is best to call a mechanic to check on the spot or call a tow truck.
Strange sound
If when you brake, you hear a squealing sound from the brake disc, it is a sign that the brake pads are worn out. You should check and replace the brake pads to ensure safety.
Meanwhile, screeching noises when you brake can be a sign that the brake pads are not working properly and need to be checked and repaired.
