German luxury car brand crashes: Imported goods decrease by 140 million
In the context that many imported car models in the country are scarce and tend to increase in price sharply due to the impact of Decree 116, German car company Volkswagen has strongly reduced prices for its expensive car models in Vietnam, with the highest reduction up to 140 million VND.
Volkswagen's official distributor in the Vietnamese market has just announced a year-end stimulus program through discounts and gifts.
This December, many Volkswagen car models in Vietnam are discounted directly or converted into insurance and maintenance period.
The Scirocco sports car has the biggest discount, with a reduction of 120 million to 140 million VND depending on the version. The Passat GP sedan has a discount of 100 million VND, the Touareg SUV has a discount of 130 million VND, and the Sharan multi-purpose vehicle has a cash discount of 50 million VND.

The remaining models such as Beetle Dune and Tiguan Allspace still keep the old selling price but come with gift packages of accessories or insurance equivalent to 30 - 40 million VND.
A representative of Volkswagen Vietnam said that this price will be applied from now on and is expected to last until the end of January 2018 and committed to delivering cars to customers before Tet. However, due to the limited number of available cars, it is possible that this discount and promotion will end sooner than planned.
Due to the impact of Decree 116, the Vietnamese automobile market is facing the risk of a shortage of imported cars, which could push car prices up due to a lack of supply.
But instead of increasing prices, Volkswagen Vietnam has adjusted the selling prices for most of the imported cars distributed by this company in the Vietnamese market. This seems to go against the trend, making many people feel surprised.
However, according to experts, Volkswagen Vietnam's car price reduction is actually a move to increase sales and push inventory.
It is known that the car model with the biggest discount this time from Volkswagen Vietnam is the Scirocco, which is about to be discontinued due to slow sales.
Carscoops recently revealed information that German carmaker Volkswagen is planning to discontinue the Scirocco in the near future. From next year, this sports car will not have any other upgraded versions other than the current variants on sale.
First introduced to the public at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, the Scirocco was once considered a stylish three-door hatchback and won the hearts of many customers. But in recent years, Scirocco sales have been steadily declining. In 2016, the German automaker sold only 10,752 Sciroccos.
The Scirocco was officially introduced to Vietnam in 2011. However, due to its "picky" customers, this model has been discontinued from import. Therefore, Volkswagen Vietnam's sharp discount on the Scirocco is actually a move to push inventory.
