The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has approved plans to sue French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo for publishing caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad, regional sources said, amid anger and discontent among Muslims around the world.

Saudi Arabia's The Independent newspaper quoted OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani as saying: "The OIC is studying French and European laws and regulations as well as other procedures to take legal action against Charlie Hebdo Magazine. If French law allows us to initiate legal proceedings against Charlie Hebdo, the OIC will not hesitate to prosecute this magazine."

Previously, in a recent issue, Charlie Hebdo magazine published on its cover a picture of the Prophet Mohammed with tears falling down his cheeks, holding a sign that read "Je suis Charlie" (I am Charlie).

On his personal Twitter account, Mr. Madani emphasized: "These cartoons hurt the feelings of Muslims around the world. Freedom of speech does not necessarily have to be hate speech and must not offend others"./.
